🍃 How about green tea plantations… in France? 🇫🇷
This weekend, we’re in the Pyrenees, near Sainte-Engrâce in France, where we had the chance to visit a tea plantation and take part in a guided tour.
Did you know that tea doesn’t only grow in Asia — in China, Japan, or India? 🌏 Tea can also be grown in Europe!
Here, a particular microclimate creates the right conditions for Camellia sinensis, the plant from which tea is made, to grow. 🌱
There are around 10 tea producers in this area, and the one we visited today only started in 2020. So, in France, we’re still very much at the beginning of the journey when it comes to tea production.
But I find it such a great initiative! It’s fascinating to see how local producers are experimenting, learning, and developing something that we usually associate with much warmer parts of the world.
A small French tea story is slowly taking root. 🍵🌿
