For over a decade Prasad Hettiarachchi () has reflected on development narratives of urban colombo, especially through allegorical visual sequences which meditate on mega infrastructure projects, debt, class struggle, post-war displacement and the prolonged impact of colonial legacy. Trained in conservation and archeology, his painterly approach is inspired by Buddhist cosmology and miniature painting. The most recent installations use found material including elements deployed in construction sites to mark areas that are ‘out of bounds’. Given recent economic and political challenges in the country, the installations and drawings in Cloud Messengers invite audiences to engage with subjects such as state corruption and impunity, China’s dominance over the island’s ports and harbour as well as India’s growing geopolitical influence as a corporate power.

Join us for the exhibition opening at on Thursday, 1 August (6 – 10 pm).

Wednesday, 24th July at SNAFU.

A workshop/session reflecting on the practices of media reporting, the illusion of objectivity and the vitality of ethics in the process behind making stories, especially visual ones. Through group discussion and the facilitator's experience in making these stories, we will explore 'powerful' reporting, and how we can be better to those whose stories must be heard.

Entry by donation. All proceeds go towards supporting Rohingya refugees in Sri Lanka.
