A quick heads up.
I will be in Luang Prabang from Monday 24th - 28th. This is a rescheduling of a July trip I had to cancel due to a family emergency in the UK.
I will be in town to research and photograph for our next book and a magazine article. I am keen to discover more about som kai pa, fermented fish roe, an ingredient use in Lon Som, a recipe documented in the Traditional Recipes of Laos by Phia Sing. It is also making a resurgence in a few Luang Prabang restaurants, though for the most part not very well done. I do not need the recipe as Noi used to make it but I do want to know more about the fermentation process and see it if possible. Oddly, we were once told that it is actually made in Vang Vieng, not Luang Prabang.
If anyone with a strong interest in local food and photography wants to hook up for a drink one night, let me know. Other non-touristy authentic local food experiences/cooking also welcome.
I will also have a handful of books and t-shirts with me.
Cheers,
Mick
