Walking hand in hand with an imp is sometimes a necessary compromise for progression. However, there are times when one has to cross bridges knowing it is a point of no return. A decision must be made at this point. It seems we have accepted the status quo of commercially successful tourism developments with weak backward linkages to local agricultural sector. But when 60 to 80 cents of every tourist dollar spent on food and beverage in the Caribbean leaks out of the local economies, is it not time to walk a different path and reject the thirty pieces of silver?

The long term sustainable development of the Caribbean is the responsibility of its people. No matter the scale or nature of a development activity, it ought to bring lasting and life changing benefits to the local people and economy. This is only made possible via the ‘untokenistic’ participation of the community. Honesty and openness are key when building enduring partnerships. Behold, how good and how pleasant it was when members of the 'Gideon Force Agricultural Organic Cooperative' and the members of Belle Mont Farm came together at the table of brotherhood to further business and social relations.

Caribbean architectural style is a product of its history, geographic location and climate. Hence, it is a defining cultural element. While it is not self-evident, our identity emerged from objective and sustained social interactions that permits us to read the world in a particular way. Our values, norms, behaviours and institutions derived historically and experientially as mechanisms to benefit the region. The philosophy of Kittitian Hill does not allow for mere mimicry of the local architectural heritage rather our design is determined by the mechanical systems, knowledge and preferences of the local construction industry. Hiring small local contractors to build Kittitian Hill is not by chance but an affirmation of our Philosophy to be authentically Caribbean.
