The Kenya Flower Council (KFC) today held its 28th Annual General Meeting in Naivasha, bringing together members from across the country to reflect on the achievements of the past year and set the agenda for the future of one of Kenya's leading export sectors.
This year's AGM was particularly significant as the Council celebrated of championing Kenya's floriculture industry. Since its establishment in 1996 by five founding members, KFC has grown into the industry's leading voice, representing 148 producer members alongside a growing network of associate members, a testament to the confidence growers continue to place in the Council's work and leadership.
Over the past three decades, the council has played a pivotal role in transforming the industry into one of the world's most competitive and sustainable floriculture sectors. What began as an effort to unify the industry and establish a Code of Practice evolved into the Flowers and Ornamentals Sustainability Standard (FOSS), reflecting the industry's growing commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
Today, is internationally recognized as a leading sustainability standard and continues to strengthen Kenya's reputation as the world's fourth-largest exporter of high-quality, sustainably grown cut flowers.
Addressing members during the AGM, Chair of the Board of Directors Christopher Kulei emphasized that sustainability has become the defining factor for success in global markets.
"Sustainability today is no longer optional. It has become a defining factor in market access, consumer confidence and global competitiveness."
His sentiments were echoed by Chief Executive Officer Clement Tulezi, who noted that international buyers are increasingly demanding greater accountability across supply chains.
"Today, international buyers are no longer evaluating suppliers based only on product quality and price. Increasingly, market access depends on sustainability performance, traceability, responsible sourcing, carbon accountability and compliance transparency."
Celebrating three decades of resilience, innovation and industry leadership, the Kenya Flower Council remains committed to ensuring that Kenyan flowers continue to meet the highest global standards while strengthening the country's position as a trusted supplier of sustainably grown cut flowers to the world.
