I am deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident at Utumishi Girls Senior School that has claimed the lives of 16 students and left others injured.

My heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families, the school community and all those affected by this painful tragedy. I pray for strength to the families and quick recovery to the injured students.

May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.

Kenya has once again proven its growing influence on the global stage through the successful hosting of over 15 Heads of State and Government, including Emmanuel Macron, in Nairobi by President William Samoei Ruto. The signing of 12 strategic MoUs between Kenya and France marks a major step in strengthening trade, innovation, energy, education and economic cooperation that will create opportunities for our people and boost our economy.

The groundbreaking of the KSh 344 billion United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi is also a strong vote of confidence in Kenya’s foreign policy, stability and international standing. At the same time, the summit has injected billions into our economy through hospitality, transport, tourism, investments and business engagements driven by thousands of delegates, investors and entrepreneurs who attended the event.

As we look towards 2027 and beyond, my vision for Baringo County is to strategically position our county to attract global partnerships and investors in health, energy, mining, sports, agriculture and water development to unlock the immense potential of our people and transform Baringo into an economic powerhouse.

As your aspiring governor, I see your struggles and your sacrifices. I see the mothers walking long distances for water, the ones farming under the hot sun to feed families, the ones running small businesses at dawn to educate their children. Your wisdom nurtures peace in our villages, and your courage shapes the future of this county.

This Mother’s Day, I pledge to honor you not just with words, but with action: better healthcare for you and your children, clean water closer to home, and economic opportunities that match your hard work. Because when a mother thrives, Baringo thrives.

I wish to register my deep dissatisfaction with how the County Government of Baringo is handling the issue of water drowning incidents across the county.

It is regrettable that, despite the presence of major water bodies such as Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Chemasusu Dam, Kirandich Dam, and Cheploch River areas that pose significant risks, there are no well trained and adequately equipped deep water divers to respond effectively to such emergencies.

As we look ahead to 2027 and beyond and God willing, under my administration, I am committed to ensuring that the County Government of Baringo establishes a fully trained and well equipped water rescue unit under the County Inspectorate and Rescue Services. This unit will be dedicated to rapid and professional response in the event of such tragedies.

I also wish to extend my thoughts and support to the rescuers currently working tirelessly to retrieve the body of a young man who drowned at Kirandich Dam. Your courage and dedication during this difficult time do not go unnoticed.

Warm congratulations to William Ruto on the remarkable progress of the Kabarnet University College project. This milestone represents far more than new buildings it signals a transformative chapter for Kabarnet and the wider Baringo County.

The establishment of the university college is set to significantly boost the local economy. As construction takes shape, it is already creating valuable temporary employment opportunities for residents, injecting income into households and supporting local businesses. Once operational, the institution will open up permanent job opportunities across academic, administrative, and support sectors, providing long term livelihoods for the people of Baringo.

Beyond employment, the university will become a vital driver of economic growth for Kabarnet town. Increased population flow students, lecturers, and visitors will stimulate demand for housing, retail, transport, and other services, ultimately enhancing county revenue streams and strengthening the local economy.

Equally important is the academic and social impact. The university college will expand access to higher education, empower more young people with knowledge and skills, and promote research tailored to local and national challenges. This investment in education will uplift lives, foster innovation, and position Baringo County as a center of learning and progress.
