On February 3rd, there is an event called Setsubun.

It is generally said to be an event to ward off evil spirits and pray for good health. Since ancient times, it has been believed that "evil spirits easily enter at the change of seasons," and that "it is still cold at this time of the year (early February), so it is easy to get sick." Therefore, it is held as an event to purify the body of evil spirits and pray for good health for the year to come. It is said that the beans were first sown in the Muromachi period (1333-1573), and there is a theory that the origin of the beans is to destroy the demon's eyes. Beans also symbolize the five grains (rice, wheat, millet, millet, and beans), and the Japanese, being an agrarian people, believe that gods reside in these grains

Happy New Year!
The photo is "Hanabira Mochi" .
In Kyoto, people eat traditional sweets called "Hanabira-mochi" at New Year.
It is said that this tradition originated from a New Year's event at the imperial court,
where people ate hard rice cakes to wish for longevity and prolongation of life.
It is one of the most typical New Year's foods in Kyoto.
