Almost everything is ready in the new rooms at Borgo Del Duca, our new scattered hospitality area just a few steps from Palazzo Del Duca.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been sharing some details of the new rooms with you: from the ceilings and floors to the views overlooking the Sassi. Today, however, we want to tell you about the baskets you’ll find in the rooms, what they represent and why we chose them.
The baskets are made by Nuova Libbaneria Mediterranea, a project founded in 2023 to preserve and celebrate the local cultural heritage by bringing back the tradition of making libbani, the traditional plant-fibre ropes produced in Maratea until the late 1970s.
The baskets and other products are handmade by a group of 20 women of different ages and backgrounds, from Maratea, Lauria, Trecchina and the SAI Centres in Lauria. It is a project that brings together craftsmanship, tradition and inclusion, with the aim of creating a local craft offering and making a positive impact on seasonal tourism.
Our connection with the local area and our support for local communities have always been an important part of the way we approach hospitality.
That’s also why we fell in love with this project: we wanted our guests to discover another story of Basilicata through a small, meaningful object they will find in their room.
