WHAT IS INDIAN FOOD BOX? — THE STORY BEHIND THE BOX 🇮🇳❤️🇮🇸

Indian Food Box began in Reykjavík in October 2020, during COVID, when three Indian chef friends missed the comforting food they had grown up eating at home.

In India, a tiffin is more than a lunchbox. It is warm food from home, carefully packed in stacked steel containers and shared with care. This photograph captures the idea behind our name: different dishes, rice and memories, carried together in one box.

We started as a tiny takeaway kitchen with a simple promise: old family recipes, traditional spices, patience and heart. More than 100,000 meals later, that promise remains unchanged.

Food from home. Packed in a box. Served with care.

And beside our Indian tiffin, an Icelandic favourite: Kristall by Ölgerðin. 🇮🇸💧

Mom finally visited my restaurant for the very first time. ❤️

She came all the way from India 🇮🇳 to Iceland 🇮🇸, walked straight into my kitchen, and cooked my favorite breakfast. No matter how many dishes I make for others, Mom’s food will always be my favorite. 🥹🍳

Before leaving, she threw a coin into the wishing pond and gave her blessings. I have a feeling she wasn’t making a wish… she was asking for a full restaurant every single day! 😂🙏

The best ones come from a mother’s blessings. ❤️🇮🇳🇮🇸

Götubiti 2026 has come to an end, and our hearts are full of gratitude.

To everyone who stood in line, shared a smile, brought your friends and family, or simply stopped by to say hello—thank you. Your support means more to us than you know. Every plate we served and every kind word we received motivates us to keep bringing the true taste of India to Iceland.

A heartfelt congratulations to all the winners, and a sincere thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to make this wonderful festival possible.

We may be tired, but we’re leaving with unforgettable memories and even more motivation for the future.
