🇮🇸 June 17th is Iceland’s Independence Day — Þjóðhátíðardagurinn 🇮🇸

Today Iceland celebrates becoming an independent republic in 1944 and honors Jón Sigurðsson, the leader of Iceland’s independence movement, who was born on June 17th. However, the Park is open.

Across the country you’ll find parades, music, speeches, Icelandic flags waving proudly, and communities coming together to celebrate Icelandic culture, history, and freedom.

Ölverk is one of our favorite places to grab some amazing food, sip a brewsky, and pretend we’re only stopping in for “one quick drink.” 😂🍻

If you’re driving the Ring Road, do yourself a favor and pull into Hveragerði. It’s right off the road, easy to find, and absolutely worth the stop. Good vibes, great beer, awesome food, and the kind of place you end up staying longer than planned.
