Herbal Tea:

Herbal teas are not made from an actual tea bush or plant, but created by steeping other herbs, shrubs, bushes, roots and plants. Since these teas are not made from a tea bush, they are not true teas. Nonetheless, herbal teas are alleged to have many medicinal benefits, and have been used in China for healing purposes for thousands of years.

In the western world, herbal teas have been used for centuries to treat a wide range of ailments - a medicinal use know as herbalism - which has at times been controversial, and rarely recognized in western medicine. The primary effects that people seek in herbal teas are the stimulant, relaxant and sedative traits. Herbal teas can be soothing, aid in sleeping, relieve tension, and fight cold and influenza. For these reasons, herbal teas are increasing in popularity, and in variety.

White Tea:

White Tea, (or Silver Tips) is made from the buds and young leaves of the tea plant. The leaves are not fermented, which results in the retention of all of its antioxidants. One cup of white tea can have almost 12 times as many antioxidants as a glass of fresh orange juice! White teas also contain less caffeine than other teas, which contributes to its popularity as a soothing and relaxing tea.

White tea has been shown to carry more antibacterial and antiviral qualities than other teas, and assists our immune systems by destroying some organisms that cause disease. White tea is also believed to promote healthy blood vessels by lowering cholesterol. At the same time, white tea can contribute to bone density, help combat arthritis, and help prevent tooth decay.

Oolong Tea:

Oolong tea falls between green and black tea - it's leaves are partially oxidized - combining the characteristics of green and black teas, and their health benefits. It is a semi-green, fermented tea, but the fermentation process is halted as soon as the leave color begins to change.

In addition to antioxidants, Oolong tea also contains calcium, manganese, copper, carotin, selenium, potassium; vitamins: A, B, C, E and K, as well as folic acids, and detoxifying alkaloids. The reduced fermentation process results in an increase in poly-phenol antioxidants. Oolong tea is helpful in combating skin disorders like eczema. It is used as a supplement to other drugs in the treatment of type 2 diabetic disorders. Oolong is known to reduce the risks of acquiring skin cancer, and can help combat other forms of cancer. Oolong is also effective in controlling fat metabolism of the body.

Green Tea:

Green tea is only lightly fermented, and because of this, it retains a high level of antioxidants which the body can use to slow and prevent damage from disease, diabetes and cancer. The antioxidants nutrients in green tea also help trigger the immune system to fight viruses and lower risks of infection.

Evidence suggests that people who regularly consume green tea have lower cholesterol, reduced chances of developing heart disease, as well as a lower risk for stroke and certain types of cancer. Green tea is also considered effective in controlling weight, has been linked to helping increase bone density, combating kidney stones, preventing diabetes, staving off dementia, and fighting acne.
