Austin 40 Cafehouse

in 1958, watches were imported from foreign countries instead of being manufactured in India. My father wanted to initiate the manufacturing of watches here and traveled to London for this dream. Due to ongoing discussions with the export manager of Smith Company, Mr H.T Baker, he had to stay in London for a while. It was during his stay in London in 1958, that my father saw the luxurious Austin J40 (Pedal Car) for the first time and instantly decided to buy one for his younger son. But buying that car back then was an expensive affair and it was way beyond what my father could afford. Yet, he saved money by all means, ate only once in a day and reduced his expenses to the minimum and finally bought the car. It is an icon of what he believed in and I feel honored to dedicate this cafe to him.
