Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company - Pvt. Ltd. Stay connected to What's brewing at KDHP

The Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company (P) Ltd succeeded Tata Tea Limited on the 1st of April, 2005, when the latter exited most of its plantations in Munnar to focus on the growth of its branded tea business. Having created an exemplary plantation model, KDHP is the first ever employee owned plantation company in India and nearly all its employees are shareholders. With seven extensive tea gar

dens covering an area of 24000 Hectares, 16 tea manufacturing units with an annual production of 22 Million Kilograms of tea and close to 12,000 employees, KDHP is today the largest in South India. Operating on a unique management model, KDHP is the first tea plantation to implement a formalized participatory management structure that fosters an employee- centric environment. The unique model involves a large number of employees from all categories to discuss all matters of importance, and suggest improvements for the betterment of the organization in a healthy, innovative and democratic way.

We recently strengthened Idukki’s disaster preparedness, one step at a time.

On behalf of Tata Community Initiative Trusts, KDHP – Tata Group’s lead company for disaster response in Kerala, equipped the District Emergency Operations Centre and 5 Taluk Emergency Operations Centres with essential disaster response gear.

With the support of the NDRF team from the Arakkonam Battalion, based in Thrissur, we trained Aapda Mitras and Civil Defence volunteers across the district in effectively using these equipments from tents and inflatable tower lights to life jackets, chainsaws, radios, and more.

These 22 critical items would help empower local responders to act faster, safer, and stronger when it matters most.

On 30th July, the world woke up to the news of the tragic landslides that washed away the Villages of Punjirimattom, Mundakkai and Chooralmala causing unprecedented damage to lives and infrastructure. By swiftly responding with aid, resources, and support, action was initiated as part of the ‘One Tata Response’. Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company (P) Ltd, is the lead company for Kerala in activating the response and relief on behalf of the ‘One Tata Response’ for any disasters in Kerala. As part of the Wynad response, KDHP officials were deputed to Wynad from 3rd August 2024 to understand the requirements for the relief work and coordinate the activities for the Tata Response along with a team from IHCL and the project manager deputed from Tata Sustainability Group for the Disaster response.
Through interactions with the district administration, rescue and recovery operation heads of the Indian Army, State Police team and NDRF, visits to the collection centers, critical camps and hospital, the team was able to assess gaps in emergency supplies and carry out a needs assessment. The team also visited tribal hamlets which were flooded during the same time. Emergency supply purchases were initiated and provided to the district administration and dry ration kit was provided to tribal hamlets affected by floods from the One tata Response fund.
The Managing Director of the company K Mathew Abraham, handed over the cheque of Rs 1.57 Crores to the Chief Minister at Thiruvananthapuram on behalf of the company. The amount comprised of 57.74 Lakh, a contribution of one day’s salary of the 10,000 plus employees of the company, and 50 Lakhs each contributed by KDHP company and Tata Consumer Products Limited.
