With Sound & Vision, we explore the creative relationship between two defining works of British experimental art.
The evening begins with 20 Jazz Funk Greats (1979), Throbbing Gristle’s third but first full studio album, a record that expanded the possibilities of industrial music through its unsettling textures, cryptic lyricism, and unexpected melodic sensibilities.
It is then followed by Derek Jarman’s In the Shadow of the Sun (1981), an experimental film for which Throbbing Gristle composed the original soundtrack.
Presented in this sequence, the audience is invited to first enter the sonic world of Throbbing Gristle before experiencing how those same ideas evolve through Jarman’s alchemical approach to cinema.
