Our cake references have changed quite a bit.
We’re getting more and more customised cake ideas generated with AI... and honestly, some of them are incredibly imaginative. So when a customer sends one across, we do our best to bring that idea into the real world, in our own way.
But there’s a little something to remember when using AI images as cake references:
What looks possible in an image isn’t always possible in cake.
AI doesn’t necessarily understand that a fondant figurine needs to stand up, that a particular shape needs structural support, that chocolate behaves differently from clay, or that an impossibly tiny detail on screen may simply not translate when made by hand.
So while we can absolutely take the idea, mood, colours, characters and overall feel of an AI reference, the finished cake may not and often cannot look exactly like the reference image.
And that’s okay.
Part of custom cake making is translating an idea from a screen into something that can actually be baked, built, handled and eaten.
These are a few of the AI-generated references we’ve recently been asked to recreate, and how we interpreted them in the real world. 🤍
