🍞 BREAD — The Foreign Food That Became an Indian Everyday Essential 🇮🇳

Bread feels so Indian today that it’s easy to forget that the story of bread began thousands of years before it became a staple in Indian kitchens.

From ancient bread-making traditions to its movement across continents, bread eventually reached India through different historical and cultural influences, including Portuguese and later European baking traditions.

And once it arrived, India didn’t simply copy it.

We adapted it. ❤️

Today, bread means something completely different depending on where you are:

🍞 Sliced bread for breakfast
🥪 Sandwiches for a quick meal
🧈 Bun maska with Irani chai
🍔 Pav for Mumbai’s legendary street food
🧄 Garlic bread at cafés
🥖 Milk bread & rolls for everyday snacking
🌾 Multigrain bread for modern kitchens
🍇 Fruit bread for celebrations
🥐 Brioche & artisan breads for the new generation

From bakeries and Irani cafés to railway stations, school tiffins and street-food stalls — bread has quietly become part of Indian life.

And perhaps that’s the fascinating thing about food:

It doesn’t need to originate in a country to become part of its culture.

🇮🇳 What is YOUR favourite Indian bread?

Pav? Bun maska? Sandwich bread? Naan? Kulcha? Or something else?

Did you know that the momos we absolutely LOVE today are not originally Indian? 👀

Momos have deep roots in the Himalayan/Tibetan culinary tradition. Over time, they travelled across regions and eventually found a new home in India.

From Dharamshala and the Himalayan belt → Delhi’s street corners → college canteens → food courts → restaurants, momos transformed along the way.

And India did what India does best — made them our own! ❤️

Today you can find:
🥟 Steamed momos
🔥 Tandoori momos
🌶️ Spicy & schezwan momos
🥬 Veg momos
🍗 Chicken momos
🧀 Cheese-loaded versions
…and countless local twists.

The most interesting part? A food can cross a border, change its flavours, and still become a part of everyday life.

So, are momos still “foreign food” anymore? Or have they become Indian street food? 🇮🇳
