A โน200 tax exemption is more than a Finance update - itโs a turning point for workplace F&B managersโฆ
From April 2026, the meal exemption moved from โน50 to โน200 per meal โ a 4X jump.
That takes the potential annual tax-free meal value from roughly โน26,400 to โน1.05 lakh per employee, based on two meals a day and ~22 working days a month.
Here's the key pointers for HR and finance teams to note:
โ Cash meal allowances get ZERO tax benefits. Never have, still don't.
โ The exemption only holds if it's delivered via card/voucher, spent on food only, during working hours, on working days, with a clean audit trail.
โ It's now open to the new tax regime too, not just the old one.
At โน50 a meal, there was little need for significant infrastructure around it.
At โน200, multiplied across a workforce, it's a real payroll liability, and a real amount of money your employees could lose without realizing it.
The question every HR and finance leader should be asking this quarter?
โHow can we ensure our employees get the right benefit out of the new rule?โ
