Pugin Hall received a notification from An Post advising that a parcel from was awaiting delivery.

Customs charges: €16.77.

After some initial suspicion, we established that the notification was genuine and paid the charge.

The parcel arrived yesterday.

From Istanbul.

Inside was a fork.

Accompanying it was a letter from a visitor who had borrowed the fork while giving a presentation at Maynooth University several years ago, forgotten to return it, and had now decided to put matters right.

We are genuinely touched by this remarkable act of honesty.

The €16.77 customs charge is being personally covered by a member of staff, who considers it a small price to pay for a story that will undoubtedly be told in Pugin Hall for generations to come.

Some things are simply priceless.

Welcome home fork.

A knife, almost broken hearted by your prolonged absence, has finally been reunited with its long lost love.

And they lived happily ever after.

The End.
