DSBL U12 League Cup
Shamrocks United 4–4 Bellurgan Celtic
Shamrocks United win 5–4 on penalties
A rainy evening in Fatima produced a thrilling U12 League Cup encounter as Shamrocks United and Bellurgan Celtic served up an eight-goal classic before Shamrocks progressed on penalties.
Shamrocks made the perfect start, taking an early lead through James Fee, who finished confidently to continue his excellent run of form. Just five minutes later, Shea Savage doubled the advantage with a stunning 25-yard strike that flew into the net.
Bellurgan gradually settled into the game and were rewarded just before half-time with a goal to reduce the deficit, leaving the score at 2–1 at the break.
The second half was every bit as entertaining, with both sides pushing forward in search of goals. James Fee struck again, breaking through the defence and finishing neatly to claim his second of the evening and restore Shamrocks' two-goal cushion.
Bellurgan refused to give in and responded brilliantly, scoring twice in quick succession to level the match at 3–3. Shamrocks showed great character to regain the lead with just 10 minutes remaining when Corey Hanratty-Clyde finished off a fine run.
There was still one final twist. Bellurgan were awarded a late penalty and converted from the spot to make it 4–4, sending the tie to a penalty shootout.
The shootout was as dramatic as the match itself, with neither side able to gain an advantage until the decisive fifth kick. Bellurgan's final penalty was brilliantly saved by Kayden Farnan, giving Darragh Haughey the opportunity to seal victory. He kept his composure to score the winning penalty and send Shamrocks United into the second round, where they will face Ardee Celtic on Sunday in Ardee.
