The world of Irish music mourns the loss of the legendary uilleann piper Paddy Keenan and his wonderful music. We were lucky enough to have him visit the Cobblestone Bar and listen to him playing with other musicians including Neillidh Mulligan. The musical residency that Paddy Keenan did in the Complex Theatre, during the production of the Tennessee Williams play ‘The Rose Tattoo’ saw regular contact with him in recent years. This photograph was taken in the Complex after the show with Tom and Alphie Mulligan. Paddy Keenan was inspirational musically from his initial performances with The Pavees, upstairs in Paddy Slattery’s of Capel Street and continued his impressive uilleann piping skills thereafter. A wonderful man in music and manner. God rest him

Tonight in the Backroom we have the return of the Rowan Leslie trio. 🎻

Rowan Leslie is an Irish fiddle player and composer from outside Ballymena in rural County Antrim.

His trio of fiddle, accordion (Paddy Callaghan), and guitar (Graeme Armstrong) play tunes from across Ireland blended with self-penned material, producing music that is driving, innovative and evocative.

Dublin hosts the musical creation “The Irish of Brittany: A History of Migration” at the legendary Cobblestone Pub

The famous traditional pub The Cobblestone in Dublin will host on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. the captivating show of the Breton collective Les Irlandais de Bretagne. The Irish of Brittany:

A Story of a Migration, this unique performance explores the profound cultural and musical connections that emerged from the historic exodus of thousands of Irish people to Brittany in the 17th and 18th centuries.

A forgotten historical and musical fresco
Carried out by musicians Véronique Bourjot, Brewen Favrau, Soazig Hamelin and Kevin Le Pennec, the project revives a forgotten memory: that of the 20,000 Irish who fled English persecution to establish themselves permanently in Brittany. Through a subtle mix of anecdotes, traditional songs, dance tunes and Breton and Irish lamentes, the artists retrace this intercultural journey and imagine the musical fusion that has taken place over the centuries.

A meeting at the top of traditional music

After a remarkable visit to the Quai de la Bretagne during the Festival Interceltique de Lorient, the group stops in the Irish capital. For the occasion, they are welcomed by the BreizhEire association.
