The loss of a musical hero, in the form of Donal Lunny, one of the iconic musicians to have had the pleasure of knowing, going through life. He did visit us in Smithfield over the years and left a warm impression with everybody here. He will be badly missed all round. We were lucky to have met his brother Frank and Nova, his younger brother, Manus and his sister Gráinne and her husband John. All lovely people to say the least. We are left with lovely memories, which is a wonderful legacy along with his music. We were delighted to have met him at the Frank Harte Singing festival in the Teachers Club in Parnell Square some weeks gone by. Lovely memories

Jim Mc Killop, luthier, engineer and fiddle player, coming to Smithfield on Monday next 26th of October, to show us his prowess on one of his creations and meeting some of the people that play his fiddles. Jim and his fiddle playing friends should be well settled in their seats for 3.00pm to let us enjoy his skills at the making and playing of fiddles. Pauline’s brother Mícheál will launch his album ‘Blue Over Williams’ tomorrow at An Góilín Singer’s Club. 15 unaccompanied songs, from their family’s tradition, the Ulster tradition and more.

We’ve been fortunate enough to hear these songs from him over the years at every family gathering, and we are delighted that his singing and songs are now on record to be shared with ye all.
