We are heartbroken to hear this tragic news. Glen was well known here. Heartfelt condolences to his family friends and musical family especially to Maire & their son Christy. Utterly sad & tragic.
Glen Hansard has died at 56 years old.
The 56-year-old singer-songwriter passed away in a crash in Lucan, Dublin in the early hours of this morning.
The frontman of the Frames since the 1990s, the Dublin native also acted in Bafta winning movie The Commitments and Once.
The romantic musical drama earned Hansard an Oscar for the song Falling Slowly in 2007.
In 2020, Hansard married his wife Maire Saaritsa and the couple became parents to a boy, Christy, in 2022.
Reflecting on life as a parent, Hansard said that it meant a “complete perspective shift” but that he was “absolutely loving it”.
The family split their time between Ireland and Ms Saaritsa’s native Finland.
