egacy. Although Grattan was born in Dublin, his story is closely intertwined with Celbridge and he lived at Celbridge Abbey for a time. He is well known as being a fantastic orator and for his efforts into ensuring Ireland be granted its rightful status as an independent nation. It was said, “He thought only of Ireland; lived for no other object; dedicated to her his beautiful fancy, his elegant wit, his manly courage, and all the splendour of his astonishing eloquence.”
