Pattens Bar Public Bar 'Johnny Patten's' Bar is one of the oldest licenced premises on the beautiful Island of Achill. All are welcome from near and far! Slan!

The establishment has been run by the 'Patten' Family since the late 1800s. The Bar is furnished in a traditional Irish manner, with its open fire and friendly atmosphere. Well and truly established in the heart of the community 'Patten's' is well known for its warm traditional welcome and breath taking views.
'Patten's' is located over looking the Atlantic Sea and surrounded by an abundance of

wild Irish beauty. One of the many attractions to 'Patten's' Bar would be its close proximity to many tourist attractions, such as the 'Atlantic Drive', 'Grainne Mhaol' Castle, 'The 'Kildavnet' Graveyard and local fishing harbours, which makes it a regular stopping point for many sight seers, cyclists and walkers. Summer 2015 saw the opening of ' Sli Ghrainne Mhaol' the newest hiking / hill walk in Achill ( if not Mayo) with its trail head at 'Patten's' Bar. The hike ranges over 6.8km and is aiming to be in the 'Top 10 Hill Walks in Ireland' by 2017! Also at 'Patten's' you will find the historical figure of 'Johnny Kilbane' the legendary Irish Native Boxer. His statue stands proudly erect opposite the bar as the 'longest serving undefeated World Feather Weight Champion 1911-1923.'
Patten's Annual Sheep Show is another major tourist and local attraction to the Island. Hosted annually since 1986,on the 2nd Sunday in October it is one of the biggest in Connaught. It has continued to grow and expand every year and a not to be missed family fun day out! This year seeing its 30th Year Anniversary as its biggest yet!

Let’s get everyone together to welcome Pauric home after an unbelievable performance at the European Games in Italy where he won the 10k and was runner Up in the half marathon 🥇

*Achill Darts Open singles 2026*

32 players battled it out for Achill’s 2nd Open Darts tournament which was held in Patten’s Bar on last Saturday night

A huge thanks to all the players who turned up for the event as without you it wouldn’t have been such a great success again.

The main event was won by Ultan McDyer who bet John Heneghan in the final. The loosing semi finalists were Mikey Davitt and Bernie Ward.

James Gaynor won the Sheild competition and the Runner up was Pat Cannon.

A special thanks to all the chalkers and to David O Malley for helping running both competitions. A special thanks also to Lorna for the very welcome finger food and Sambos
