Known as Cha gio in northern Vietnam, While in Southern Vietnam known as Nem Rang, Spring roll is Vietnam National dish. there are 3 kind of Spring roll skin.
The most common is frozen spring roll skin which easily found in any modern supermarket in Jakarta.... This spring roll skin also used for cantonese and chinese spring roll
The second common is known as bahn trang. Most of them produce in Vietnam. Bahn trang spring roll skin is use both fried and fresh spring roll. This type of skin also you can find in any modern supermarket like the ranch, kemchick, food hall and Asian Groceries in Jakarta's China town Glodok.... The third or the one we use is call Bahn trang re. This sprint roll skin is like a spider net, made of rice flour, mung bean powder and salt. This type of Spring roll is not available in any supermaket or asian Groceries in Jakarta. The spring roll using Bahn trang re is lacy and crispy when it just fried..... Our latest products call Cha gio Tom, literally mean prawn spring roll, Made from prawn as main ingredient, and some vegie.
