According to Romance of the three kingdom, during the time period of the three kingdom (220-280 ad) when the warlord and strategist Kong Ming (Zhu Geliang) from Shu country was marching in the south and hence his soldiers were not used to the circumstances most of them got sick. Since he was told to be the smartest of all the leaders and cared about his soldiers he started to read books on herbs a
nd found out that the bitter leaves of a specific tree can cure stomach problems. After making a healing potion out of it most of his soldiers survived the march of the south. In memory of his heroic deed there is a proverb amongst the people of the south: 武侯遗种, meaning "the warlord plants tea as a heritage". Because after saving his soldiers he asked his army not to march forward but instead plant tea trees. So it is believed that Kong Ming was the first person to plant tea trees in great amounts. Egy mondás is született emlékére: 武侯遗种, azaz "a hadúr emlékül teát ültet". Őt tartják a déliek az első embernek, aki nagymennyiségben kezdett tea fákat ültetni.
