In Spàcio Matika, an integral part of the Batana Eco-museum, a lecture was held by Prof. Marino Budicin entitled “Batana Eco-museum - Rovinj's Maritime and Fishing Heritage - Commoner of the Sea”, as part of the mentoring program of the TRANS MARIS project (TRANSmitting MARitime Intergenerational Skills for a Sustainable Cultural-Tourism Development Model).
At the beginning, the attendees were welcomed by the institution's director, Nives Giuricin, who thanked Prof. Budicin for his contribution to preserving and promoting Rovinj's maritime heritage. She also presented the TRANS MARIS project, highlighting its importance in transferring maritime knowledge and skills between generations and training young participants through the mentoring program.
Prof. Marino Budicin, founder of the Batana Eco-museum and a skilled expert in the maritime history of Rovinj-Rovigno, delivered an engaging and informative lecture on the development of maritime affairs, fishing, and small shipbuilding—activities that defined the lives of Rovinj locals for centuries. He spoke about the period when Rovinj-Rovigno was the leading maritime and fishing center of Istria, as well as about traditional vessels, among which the batana has been preserved to this day as the most recognizable symbol of the town.
The lecture was attended by mentors and participants of the TRANS MARIS project, as well as numerous citizens who followed the presentation with great interest and had the opportunity to learn a number of fascinating historical facts about the rich maritime heritage of Rovinj-Rovigno and its role in shaping the local community's identity.
