Meli is the Greek word for honey. 🍯

So honey had to find its way onto my menu. You will meet it in three places:

1. Feta cheese in filo pastry with honey pomegranate cream
2. Cheese balls with honey orange sauce
3. Greek yogurt with honey

The first two belong at the start of the meal: salty cheese next to something sweet. The third is the simplest way a Greek dinner can end.

Order one of each and tell me which one wins.

Some plates are better when nobody is in a hurry. Sunday evening is made for them. 🕯️

🍯 Beef meli: beef cooked slowly in Santorini w**e, with sundried tomatoes and mashed potatoes. Karol wrote on Google (translated from Polish) that it was "one of the best-prepared dishes I've had the pleasure of trying in Greece".

🍯 Stuffed vegetable: tomato and pepper, filled and baked, with potatoes.

🍯 Dolmades homemade, rolled and packed in the pot.

A table for sixteen in a small restaurant in a narrow alley.

Phillip came with a group of sixteen this summer and wrote on Google:

This is Meli on a Saturday. Small and bright, in the colours of the Aegean.

We are open today from 11:00 to 23:30. So lunch or dinner, the table looks just like this.

A rusk at the bottom. Tomato, soft white cheese and capers on top. A line of red sauce around the plate. 🫒

Cretan dakos, straight from my kitchen.

It comes from Crete and it was made for hot days: crunchy, fresh, a little salty. I plate it with some extra care because at my table the eyes eat first.

Order it at the start and share it. It opens the appetite for everything that comes after.

Travelling with someone who doesn't eat meat? 🫒

You don't need to find a second restaurant for the evening.

This is what the dolmades look like before you ever see them. 🫒

One big pot. Vine leaves rolled tight and packed in circles from the edge all the way to the middle.

On my menu they are written as "Dolmades homemade". That word is there for a reason: they are made here, in my kitchen, in pots like this one.

Order them as a starter and put the plate in the middle of the table. It is a dish made for sharing.
