Today we have another runner who will be fundraising on behalf of the Oasis Project. Here is a quick Q&A with Sami.

Why have you challenged yourself to complete a half marathon for The Oasis Project?

I completed two half marathons in 2025 and was planning to rest at the start of 2026. However, when the opportunity to run for The Oasis Project Gambia came up, I couldn't say no. As a primary school teacher, their ethos aligns perfectly with my values.

How is your training going?

It’s been a bit rushed! I had a kidney stone right before training started and then didn't run at all during Ramadan, so it's been intense lately, but I've really enjoyed it.

What motivates you to keep going?

When it was cold and dark before the clocks changed, I felt a strong sense of responsibility to the charity and everyone who donated. In those moments, thinking of The Oasis Project really pushed me to keep going.

Gone in moments.
A father. Four children.
Kebba Wada, Khadijah, Muhammed, Mariam, and Sumayah — in a tragic drowning at Cape Point Beach, Bakau last month.

A family is broken.
A community is grieving.
A nation must reflect.

Drowning is preventable.
And that’s why the Red Dolphins lifeguard Volunteers matter.

They stand on our beaches every day, with limited resources, risking their lives to save others. But they cannot do it alone.

We are calling on every Gambian — at home and abroad — and anyone connected to The Gambia:

💛 D25 or D50 per month
💛 £5/€5/$5 per month if you live abroad
💛 D500 or D1000 for businesses
➡️ Give what you can afford

Let’s put this into perspective:
• 500 people × D25 = D12,500/month
• 500 people × D50 = D25,000/month
• 50 businesses × D500 = D25,000/month
• 50 businesses × D1000 = D50,000/month
• 500 people abroad × £5/€5/$5 = ≈ D180,000–D220,000/month

Together, we could raise over D250,000 every month — enough to support lifesaving equipment, training, transport, and proper lifeguard towers across our beaches.

WAVE Numbers
📲 Red Dolphins (daily needs & transport): 7832034

Let this not just be another moment of grief that fades away.
Let it be the turning point.

Because the truth is…
it shouldn’t have to happen to you to matter to you.
