Please follow The Odd Fellows Arms! Our good friend Marta & Nick who some of you may know from the tea room is re opening this much loved country pub!! Marta &Nick has also asked Thomas to be god father to her new child. He is thrilled it’s such an honour.

After Wednesday next week The tea room will be closed for a few weeks as we take a break. We will use this time to fly to Poland and visit family and indeed participate in the Christening. We will post the exact closed dates on a future post. For now read below about Marta’s new venture ⬇️

🍻 The Pub That Refused To Spellcheck Itself! 🍻

Did you know that Carlton’s famous Odddfellows Arms got its name thanks to a signwriter’s mistake? 😆

Back in the 1980s, a painter accidentally added an extra “d”, turning Oddfellows Arms into Odddfellows Arms. Oops!

When the brewery tried to fix the error in 1994, the locals weren’t having it. The village had grown so fond of the quirky sign that they protested until the brewery gave up and kept the extra letter.

Proof that sometimes mistakes are worth keeping… especially after a few pints! 😉

BREAKING NEWS FROM THE OLD YORK TEA ROOM…

Tony has just suffered a vicious attack in bed.

The suspect: Archie.

The weapon: A fart.

The victim was lying peacefully with Archie and Bruno, enjoying what he thought would be a relaxing cuddle.

Without warning, Archie turned around, lifted a leg, and released what experts are describing as “an event of significant atmospheric concern” directly into Tony’s face.

Witness Bruno showed no remorse and is believed to be an accomplice.

Thomas was unable to assist as he was laughing too much.

Despite the trauma, Tony is expected to make a full recovery.

Archie and Bruno remain at large, demanding treats and refusing to comment 🤦‍♂️ 🤦 🤦‍♀️

So may years ago, this house was standing before the Wars of the Roses, before Henry VIII, before Shakespeare was born.

Today, the oldest timber-framed house in England isn’t a museum, a government building, or owned by a heritage trust.

It’s a tea room run by a gay couple.

Some people think that’s a disgrace.

We think it’s exactly what makes Britain great.

For nearly a millennium, this building has survived fire, plague, civil war, religious conflict, and every social change imaginable. It wasn’t preserved by freezing time—it survived because each generation found a new purpose for it. Like we are now. We love this house.

The oldest house in York isn’t trapped in the past.

It’s still alive.

Come for the history. Stay for the tea. 🫖🏳️‍🌈
