Roasters Choice // Burundi Mutambu

August’s subscription coffee: Lot 43 from Mutambu Hill.

Showcasing Burundi’s deserved reputation for producing some exceptional coffees in East Africa Mutambu is exclusive to our Roasters Choice subscribers.

A micro-lot from a collective of around 300 farmers, all working with relatively small-scale plots of land.

In the cup ☕️ Mutambu is balanced and clean with a juicy acidity. Notes of apple and cola are layered over this wonderfully sweet tasting coffee.

The Fermentation Project // James Hoffmann & Lucia Solis

Pre-sale is now live (link in bio)

We are thrilled to be taking take part in The Fermentation Project, a global tasting event organised by James Hoffmann and Lucia Solis to explore the effects of four different controlled fermentation methods.

Each process was performed on the same lot of coffee, to truly highlight the nuances of processing methods and remove all other variables.

Tune in to the global tasting event led by James Hoffmann on October 3rd at 3pm UK time.

Coffees will be roasted on September 16th to allow for at least 2 weeks of resting prior to the tasting.

In a time when fermentation methods are quickly developing and evolving in the industry this is a unique opportunity to explore how different fermentation methods are carried out and how they impact the end flavour of the coffee.

The kit includes 100g of each process:
• Mechanically Demucilaged
• Wild Fermentation
• Lactobacillus Inoculated
• Yeast Inoculated

The same lot of coffee was separated into 4 parts for each process, so that each fermentation method can beevaluated without other variables.

Reserve your kit now
Shipping 2 weeks before the live tasting

Trust in the Process

Some more images and footage from our recent visit to Rwanda - what an incredible country.

There are so many inputs into making great coffee …

Hard work, careful routines and lots of attention to detail. Countless stages along the way before it gets to us here at the roastery. We have complete admiration and appreciation for everyone involved 🫶

Our latest blog post shares some thoughts and reflections on our time in Rwanda - hit the link in our bio or head to the website to find out more.

New Coffee // Colombia Decaf

Our latest seasonal decaf just dropped ☕️✌️

A sweet and balanced washed coffee from small holders working with Caficauca. It’s a regional lot, picked and processed a short distance from the mountain top city of Manizales, where it was decaffeinated

📷 Slide two shows Manizales
📷 Slide three was taken from one of the farms; if you look closely you can see Manizales is in this shot too - sitting in the distance, perched along the spine of the mountains.
📷 The fourth slide shows some of the coffee’s journey

The decaffeination process uses alcohol from locally produced sugar cane; everything is done at origin in Colombia, avoiding multiple ocean freight routes and reducing the impact on the environment.

Relationships are at the heart of our business.

Last month we travelled to Rwanda. Our first time in East Africa and an opportunity to better understand coffee production in this amazing country.

Dubbed the land of 1000 hills Rwanda is a high altitude nation that delivers some incredible quality. Coffee is the most important source of income for small scale farmers here.

In Rwanda the rise of speciality coffee is intertwined with a brave new world where Rwandans are optimistic and proud of their country’s future while openly recognising the challenges of living and learning from their past.

In the end it’s always about people and relationships. We’re so thankful to be able to connect with some of the amazing people involved and inspired to share their stories and their coffees.

Nafuna ✨

Our fourth year buying from the Coffee Gardens in Sironko, Uganda.

One of two lots we have selected from them this year, this coffee was prepared by Jackie Nafuna, using a variation of the washed process.

In the cup there’s a lovely orangey acidity and a layered sweetness.

Shipping out to our subscription customers as May’s Roasters Choice; Nafuna is also available to buy on the shelf and on line.
