I say this with a heavy heart, a wobbly bottom lip, and a bit of a leaky eye…..
After much contemplation, I’ve decided to hang up my apron and bid a fond farewell to Victorious Sponge. It’s not a decision I’ve made lightly and have changed my mind numerous times, BUT I’m finding it a bit of a struggle to manage running a business on top of working in a school full time (these little people really are exhausting - or maybe I’m just getting old 🤪). So for now, I feel the best thing for me is to take a step back from baking.
Running a business is hard. It’s not just baking the cake. It’s all the unseen time and energy spent that goes into designing that cake, sourcing ingredients and other supplies, hand making models and learning new techniques, keeping on top of paperwork, hygiene courses, allergen courses, insurance, tax returns etc. I have always tried to keep my time charged at a minimum and make very little profit at all considering the time and effort I put in. And I always strive to provide the freshest, tastiest and most fabulous looking cakes for every customer. Those of you who know me well will know how much pressure I put on myself to produce the perfect result. Too much unnecessary pressure a lot of the time.
The past four years have been amazing and I feel so proud of everything I’ve accomplished, but sadly I don’t feel I have the energy to continue right now. I will be eternally grateful to every one of you for supporting me and cheering me on through this experience. Every single like, follow, share, order, recommendation, raffle ticket purchased (yep - we’ve raised a lot of money for charities during this adventure too 🥰) have all helped me to achieve this little dream of mine which I never really believed was possible!
So from the bottom of my heart… THANK YOU! Two little words that honestly don’t sound enough.
Apologies for rambling on, and if you’ve made it this far you deserve a drink! I guess all that’s left for me to say now is ‘Happy New Year’!
