Standing on the shores of Lake Windermere, Langdale Chase has been welcoming visitors since 1891. In 2023, our five-star hotel entered a new era of laid-back luxury and style, following a careful and sensitive restoration. Whether you choose to stay in the Main House, the Boathouse or the Lake House, you’ll wake up to a breathtaking vista whatever the season. Book a table in our two AA Rosette pan

oramic Dining Room, home to classic, innovative British cooking, or grab a bite to eat in one of our charming lounges. On warmer days, you can enjoy our terrace – the quintessential spot for a leisurely afternoon tea. At Langdale Chase, you can do as much as you wish, or kick back and fine tune the art of doing absolutely nothing. From wine tasting to water sports, or just time spent relaxing in our Cinema Room, our team are on hand to help you get the most out of your stay. Our hotel car can be booked to pick you up or get you into position, or if you’re looking for a cruise along Lake Windermere, our unique 1928 wooden motor yacht, Albatros, offers three sailings a day from our jetty.

We spent the morning with Alex, our gardener, as he prepared new propagations of Salvia ‘Cerro Potosi’.

Watching him work, you realise how much of the garden begins with moments like this, gardening is an art that’s precise and full of intention.

Each cutting is a promise of future blooms, ready to brighten the paths and terraces around the hotel.

In our newly renovated bar, Becca brings the Bramble mocktail to life.

A familiar favourite, made lighter and brighter for summer days.

She tops it with mint gathered straight from the garden.

Sip it on the terrace as Windermere drifts quietly by.

There’s nothing quite as breathtaking as watching a solar eclipse from the shores of Langdale Chase.

With sunshine shimmering across Windermere and a spectacular sunset to round off the evening, guests were treated to an unforgettable evening in one of the Lake District’s most extraordinary settings.

Moments like these are what make Langdale Chase so special.

Alex has been tending something special at the entrance to the terrace.

Pots planted to echo the beautiful colours and textures of the borders around them.

They are designed to slow you down for just a moment...

A small welcome, before Windermere opens up in front of you.

We joined Trevor, our gardener and wildlife enthusiast, for a walk through our wildflower meadow.

He showed us how the area encourages bees, butterflies and birds to settle right beside the hotel, offering a sanctuary for lakeside wildlife.

Enjoy a wander here and sit for a quiet moment. It’s a calm little escape just beyond the terrace.

A snapshot of an unforgettable guest experience at the Graythwaite Adventure.

One minute you’re gripping the wheel on a wild 4x4 trail, the next you’re steadying your breath for the sharp focus of clay shooting. Then comes the axe throw and the thud that feels like a tiny victory.

Adventure in the Lakes isn’t just an activity; it’s a memory you get to live with those who mean most.

Cumbrian craftsmanship at its finest.

For guests looking to explore the Lakes in a relaxed setting, we highly recommend a trip to

Where candles and soaps begin with raw ingredients and real skill. The turning point is the moment your mix comes together. You walk out with a piece of the Lakes you hand-crafted yourself.

How do you honour history while keeping a garden thriving?

For Thomas Mawson, the answer was simple: let the garden speak the same language as the landscape around it.

Claire explores the heritage layout, noticing how it pulls inspiration from the fells and the quiet shimmer of the lake.
