It sounds like the plot of a blockbuster, but it’s all part of the remarkable history of the Tour de France.

Join The South Downs Social and The Naked Grape as we celebrate the finale of the men’s Tour de France and the start of the women’s race with an evening of French wines, delicious food, and unforgettable cycling stories.

As Cat from The Naked Grape guides you through a handpicked selection of French wines, we’ll journey through the regions that have become synonymous with Le Tour. Along the way, discover the extraordinary tales inspired by The Miscellany of the Tour de France—from dynamite on mountain roads and riders chased by bears to ingenious cheats, eccentric characters, and plenty of glorious French skulduggery.

Gather around our long communal tables, enjoy a generous French charcuterie board included in your ticket, and settle in for an evening of great conversation, laughter, and discovery.

Another year, another finalist. We didn’t bring home the trophy again, maybe we have to try a little harder next year!

In the last 12 months we have fulfilled around 90,000 orders.

Starting life as a little pop-up during Covid with absolutely no intention of becoming a cycling café.

We’ve hosted countless community events many of them completely free. We provide a regular home for Wi******er Youth counselling and other local group to use our space each week. We’ve survived countless floods survived heat waves (in a building where apparently opening a window was considered an optional feature!). Kept the coffee flowing the local cakes baked and the conversation going. We’ve watched friendships form cycling groups grow, charities raise money, businesses meet, clubs gather and thousands of people walking through our doors. Of course winning an award would be lovely but when we look around at what this place has become we remind ourselves that the real achievement isn’t a trophy on a shelf, it is our community that fills the Social every day.

None of it will be possible without our wonderful team. The early mornings, the endless energy in challenging conditions, the warmth they show all our customers many who visit from a far just to meet up with our team. The care they put into every poor, every meal and every interaction. They are the heart of everything we do and we are endlessly grateful to each and every one of them.

So yes an award would be lovely but the real prize has always been seeing this corner of the city once unloved now buzzing with people bikes, friends and conversations.

Congratulations to all the winners thoroughly deserved and a huge thank you to everyone who supports us.

Will keep doing what we do award or no award!

As part of A Taste of Wi******er, we’re bringing you an evening of foodie trivia, good company and a little bit of friendly competition.

Think you know your kimchi from your kombucha? Your burrata from your burrito? Time to put your food knowledge to the test.

Round up your team, and join us for a relaxed evening of questions and the chance to win some foodie prizes. Whether you’re a serious food lover or just enjoy a good quiz night, there’ll be something for everyone.

Even better, it’s all in support of Wi******er Basics Bank, with proceeds from the evening helping support local people in our community.

Join us as part of Taste of Wi******er for a relaxed evening celebrating the fantastic food and drink producers right on our doorstep, with a guided wine and beer tasting showcasing some of the brilliant suppliers from the South Downs National Park and surrounding area.

Hosted by Cat Brandwood from The Naked Grape (Alresford), who many of you will know from previous tastings, expect plenty of stories, knowledge and discoveries along the way.

Cat has a knack for making wine approachable, interesting and fun, bringing the people and passion behind each bottle and brew to life.

As always, we’ll be gathering around our long, sociable tables for an easy-going evening of tasting, good conversation and celebrating the local producers and hospitality businesses we’re proud to support.

It’s tough for young people right now, government can do a lot more to support small businesses, especially hospitality where a lot of young folk earn their stripes in their first job.
