This is what we reckon a proper pub looks like… 🍺🎯⚽️🏉🎶
Look, I don’t care what anyone says. A proper pub does not need a chalkboard explaining the emotional journey of a beetroot. It needs a bar, a dartboard, a packet of peanuts that’s been there since 1994, and enough lager to make Tony forget he owes me twelve quid.
You walk in, nobody asks whether you’ve booked, and the only thing served on a wooden board is somebody’s elbow after they’ve fallen asleep in the corner. That’s civilisation. That’s Britain at its finest. You can hear the fruit machine, someone’s arguing about football with absolutely no knowledge of football, and there’s always one bloke who’s been “just finishing this one” since half two.
And before anyone starts — yes, pubs can do food. Obviously. Crisps are food. Pork scratchings are practically a meal if you pace yourself. But if your pint arrives next to a tiny bucket of chips with rosemary sprinkled on them like it’s the Chelsea Flower Show, then something has gone badly wrong.
A pub is not a restaurant with a sad little beer tap shoved in the corner. It’s somewhere you go to sort your life out, make it worse again, and hear Dave announce a business idea so stupid it somehow requires me to lend him money.
That’s a proper pub. No nonsense, no foam art, no one calling your sausage and mash a “deconstructed experience.” Just a pint, your mates, and the firm belief that you are all handling adulthood brilliantly.
Sounds about right to us. 🍺😂
