Big Congrats to our for guiding our biggest farm tour yet, consisting of the Plastic Pictures film crew, who I am hoping rlly enjoyed our tour as I had a lot of fun myself going out there with these guys. We had a group consisting of 30 people making it our largest tour yet by far I think, and if anyone else is interested there is plenty of space left on our upcoming tours, you book through the Fareharbor website or our own 👍

Hiya, something a little new for everyone today, well i say that, this will be our third week of doing this but during the weekends of July and August we plan to open what we are calling 'The Grading Shed Oyster Bar.' this Bar can be found next door to our inside what would be our oyster grading yard during the week, Behind this bar will be an assortment of soft drinks and wines, and we also have our own Kentish Larger on tap as well as our Oyster Stout (similar to Guinness) So get down here this weekend even if its just for a look around, maybe you will learn a thing or to about how your oysters are processed and graded

It’s getting to that time of year, I always love working out on the farm this time of year, with the sun on our backs and the lovely whitstable water at our feet, nothing beets working up a sweat then jumping straight in that cold sea water, refreshing as ever. And maybe we will even stop by the old Neptune for a pint and some whitstable oysters on our way back to base 😂

There has been some amazing weather down here in whitstable, and the morning couldn’t get any more beautiful, and we oyster farmers have the luxury of seeing that sunrise every morning from our farm. (Most mornings 😂) Our tractor driver will have to make several tips back to shore to ensure we collect as many oysters during each tide as we possibly can, so we can feed all our lovely customers at the and ofc

at over half a mile off shore at one of our big tides you’ll see our hardworking farm operative Jacob moore, caught him on his way out to the farm just as he went past the farms northwest boy. As you may be able to see he is carrying his bucket of bands, he will use said bands to strap down any loose bags on the tressels or even put up new withies (markers for the boat at hight tide) and fix up the farm in general after strong onshore winds đŸ’Ș

Our oyster farm can reveal wonders at low tide like you wouldn’t believe, drone bottles of wine to old ship wrecks it has it all and almost completely intact 😂
During this time I ( .hirlemann ) found a beautiful, old and weathered tractor wheel and it made for a beautiful photo don’t ya think.

It’s not often we work at the evening as we prefer it to get lighter as we work. But we are reminded how beautiful the North Kent Coastline is! As we move through the seasons the colours change. We have also noticed that the sea is teaming with life as the water temperature increases!

Not only are our oysters growing voraciously but the yearly seed w**d bloom has begun. Watch this space to see how the colours of our farm develop through the year.

Last month we had the privilege of hosting some of the Seafish trainers at our depuration site at the East Quay, Whitstable.

Seafish are a public body supporting the seafood industry in the UK. They provide our crew with essential training they need to work in aquaculture sector.

During this visit we were able to discuss the development of methods used to purify oysters, which we are incredibly interested in.

They were able to gain useful footage for their new training material by observing our recently renovated state of the art depuration site. We hope the content they were able to get helps the learning of anybody wishing to enter the aquaculture sectors for years to come.
