The station that never stopped moving…
Imagine standing here in 1884, when the railway first arrived at West Bay.
For generations, people travelled down here by train, but passenger services ended in 1930 and the last freight trains ran in 1962.
For years, this beautiful old station stood quietly, waiting for a new chapter.
Then, in 2015, we took it on.
We took on the old Station House and began the journey of bringing this incredible piece of West Bay history back to life.
But we didn’t stop there.
We brought two railway carriages to the station and gave them a new purpose. One of them has an especially remarkable story to tell — a former nursing carriage that was used during the First World War to transport wounded troops home from the Battle of the Somme.
Think about that for a moment.
This very carriage once carried young men home from the battlefields, and today it is a place where people come together to eat, celebrate and make memories.
The second carriage has its own railway story, too, and together they have become the home of Platform.
Today, our old Station House is a bar, our two railway carriages are restaurants, and people come here to eat, drink, celebrate and make memories.
We didn’t just want to open a restaurant.
We wanted to bring the station back to life — while keeping its stories, its character and its railway heritage alive.
Because these aren’t just old buildings and railway carriages.
They have stories to tell.
And now, they have a new chapter to add to them.
The trains may have stopped running, but we like to think the station never really stopped moving.
