💜 Who is Christine? 💜
You may have wondered where the name Christine’s Community Café came from, so we wanted to share the story behind it.
Christine was Julia’s mum. When Christine was living with dementia, Julia felt there simply wasn’t enough support available within the local community for families affected by dementia.
From that experience, Digswell Dementia Café was born in 2017 — created to provide a welcoming, safe and supportive place where older people and people living with dementia, their families and carers could come together, talk, laugh and feel understood.
Sadly, Christine lost her battle with dementia in 2018. Although she is no longer with us, the café has continued to grow and support the community, carrying with it the values and purpose that inspired it in the first place.
In 2025, the café was renamed Christine’s Community Café by MP Andrew Lewin, creating a lasting tribute to Christine and a special way for Julia and her family to keep her memory at the heart of everything they do. 💜
What makes our café particularly special is that everyone involved has been affected by dementia in some way. Whether through a loved one, a friend, personal experience or supporting someone in the community, we understand the challenges that dementia can bring.
