CHARITY QUIZ NEXT WEEK!
With England’s first game kicking off at 9pm on Wednesday, 17th June, we know a traditional quiz night would clash. so, instead of calling it off, we’re pivoting for an urgent cause!
Starting from opening next Wednesday, we’re running a written charity quiz so you can play at your own pace, beat the football rush, and support a Watford institution.
We are raising money for the Watford Pump House "Raise the Roof" appeal.
For over 50 years, this converted Victorian building has been the absolute heart of Watford’s music and performing arts scene. They urgently need to raise £450,000 before the end of June to counter rising construction costs and completely rebuild their failing theatre roof, foundations, and walls.

How to play:
Quiz Starts: Wednesday, 17th June (Available from opening!)
Entry Fee: £2 per person (All proceeds go directly to the charity)
Teams: Max 6 people per team.
Pop in early, grab a drink, do the quiz, and help secure the next 50 years of local theatre and music!

We love stocking 750ml sharing bottles, especially wild ales, sour beers, and fine ciders. If you enjoy the tart, complex flavours of wild ales or lambics, we highly recommend trying our fine ciders. The connection between the two styles is incredibly thin, as both rely on natural, spontaneous fermentation and deep fruit profiles.

Buying a full 750ml bottle can be a big commitment if you just want a taste. To make things easier, we always sell our fine ciders by the glass in wine measures. We have also started doing the same with select large beer bottles, opening them to pour in smaller measures, so you can explore the liquid without buying the whole bottle.

We have two great options open on the bar right now:

Wild ale: Cloudwater The Light Behind it All 7.2% (2023 vintage)

We know just how much everyone loves heading to the pub to cheer on the national team, and there is nothing quite like that tournament atmosphere.

However, we want to let you know ahead of time that we won't be showing the World Cup matches this year. We’ve tried showing live sports in the past, and we've realized it just doesn't quite work for our space and the vibe we do best.

Instead, we are proudly positioning ourselves as a football-free sanctuary. If you are looking to escape the mega-crowds, avoid the loud commentary, and actually hear yourself speak, we’re your spot!

We’d love for you to still join us for a pint and a relaxed catch-up while the games are on.

Our latest fridge addition is Percolate, a new Imperial Stout from Beak Brewery. We tend to stock stronger, more unusual styles in our can and bottle fridge. Don't get us wrong, we love a good hazy DIPA as much as anyone, but our favourite part of running the pub is providing unique styles that you might not find everywhere else. Imperial stouts are always a massive hit here, so we're really glad to have this one on the shelves.

We are mixing things up for our Wednesday quiz to raise money for a great cause, and make some space on the pumps for Thursday’s big Meet the Brewer & Tap Takeover with Elusive Brewing!

£4.90 CASK PINTS (Wednesday Only): Come down tomorrow and help us drink the cellar dry for £4.90 a pint, so we are ready for Elusive’s takeover!

THE CHARITY QUIZ SHEET (Wed–Sun): Instead of our usual sit-down format, we’ve put together a mammoth paper quiz sheet featuring 56 questions and a picture round. You can complete it in your own time at your own pace while you enjoy your pint.

How to Play: Grab a sheet from the bar anytime from opening tomorrow until 9 PM on Sunday. (Note: Quiz sheets must be completed in the pub!) 

Cost: £2 per person (100% of the pot goes to Watford Foodbank). 

Teams: Max 6 people per team.  

The Prize: The winning team scores a £30 bar tab! 

Winners: Hand in your answers to the bar; we will mark the scores and announce the winners on Monday.

It’s been a horrible sticky week!

Thankfully, today is still nice and warm, but the heavy humidity has finally gone.

​If you're looking to celebrate surviving the heat with a different kind of sticky situation, we’ve got just the thing waiting in the fridge: PVA by Left Handed Giant.

​This is a stupidly thick DIPA. ​To get that guaranteed thickness, the brewers loaded the malt bill with porridge oats, rolled oats, and flaked spelt, putting the beer through a double-mash and double-centrifuge process. On the hop side, it's triple dry-hopped with a heavy-hitting blend of Nelson Sauvin, Nectaron, Krush, Amarillo, and Citra.

Expect it to smell like grapefruit and nectarine, followed by strong, sweet tropical fruit flavours like peach and mandarin orange. It all comes together with that massive, thick body and a nice fluffy head.

Well, we're glad that's over! Back to normal tomorrow with lovely cask beer and great keg.See you tomorrow!

We've finally got an engineer booked tomorrow, so we should be able to open Thursday.

We could have risked tomorrow, but want to focus on making sure the beer is up to our usual standard!
