- UPDATE: SOLD -

*** Flash Sale ***

Bonjour à tous 🙂

We have a beautiful "Tarte aux fraises" (strawberry tart) serving 4 to 6 people available today. Signature shortcrust pastry, Crème pâtissière à la vanille and fresh strawberries, £20.

We usually don't make big ones, only individual ones, to sell as we know it's not in the British culture as the French do to walk in the Boulangerie/Pâtisserie to buy several Pâtisseries" (cakes) just for dessert or to treat loved ones.
We only make family size ones on order but a few people walked in for a big cake and were disappointed to not be able to get one from the display so we've decided to make a little one.

Quite unbelievable to still have it in display... In France it would have been gone in no time at all perfect for dessert after the Sunday meal with the family 😀

Please DM us if you'd like to reserve it or pop in the shop. First come, first served. We're here hntil 4pm today as an exception.

Merci et Bon Appétit!!

*** Crème caramel & Crème brûlée ***

Those 2 separate and different desserts are classics in France. One is more accessible to everybody and households as it's a basic dessert you can find in supermarkets (the popular "Flanby"), enjoyed usually by kids before palates evolve and fancy more elaborated ones. It can easily be made at home too (and a homemade one is way better) and reminds us of the ones our mothers or grandmothers used to make.
The other is more a real treat in restaurants as you do need a professional kitchen tool, a blowtorch, to complete a good one. Now if you're a masterchef, you can easily make it at home with quality ingredients for nice flavours and textures and you do have the right tool to give it its final touch 😃

As we've had some confusion again over the weekend as some customers got both desserts mixed up, we thought we'll make a proper post after we explained it a few times in stories 🙂

"La crème caramel"/ "Le flan au caramel"/ "La crème dessert au caramel" is made of eggs, milk, brown sugar, vanilla infused sugar on a layer of liquid caramel baked in a case in a bain-marie.
It's served cold and upside down, removed from its case, so you can enjoy the liquid caramel pouring down and covering the "flan".
Depending on where you are in France, the dessert can have a different name and some regional twists such as apple brandy, orange blossom water or salted butter.

It's a worldwide dessert as you can find different versions and flavours in Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Caribbean countries and throughout Latin America.

"La crème brûlée" is made of eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla pods and baked in its clay pot in a bain-marie. It is served cold in its clay pot, covered with a layer of sugar caramelised on order with a blowtorch resulting in a hardened crunchy top that people love to slowly crack with their spoon (one of Amélie Poulain's favourite simple pleasures 😊).

Did you know about their differences? What's your favourite one? Or do you equally like both?
Did you know about the other versions?

Bon appétit!!

Bonjour tout le monde,
Ça baigne ? 😀
All good?😀

We are back for a new week, still with our new opening hours due to works starting in Sankey Street for 4 months from 20th April (we've been told it's been delayed and they will be in front of our shop in July and August) forcing us to change our way of working. Indeed the Bakery side of our business is stopped between 15th April and end of August for now which means NO pastries and NO breakfast options between Wednesday and Friday included.

Our new opening hours are as follows:
> Wednesday to Friday: 12pm to 4pm for lunch, cakes and drinks then 6pm to 8pm for Evening Bistro Menu.
> Saturday: 10am to 4pm (pastries and breads should be pre-ordered to avoid disappointment).
> Sunday (from 10/05) 10.30am to 11.30am for collection of breads and pastries then Brunch options from 11.30am to 3pm (last food order 2.30pm) OR Special Sunday Lunch on 1st Sunday of the month over the summer. Bookings are highly recommended by Thursdays 4pm.

⚽️🏆 Also the FIFA World Cup 2026 is coming so order your Apéro Platters (mix of French cheeses and charcuteries with 1 baguette)or Baguettes Campaillette for your barbecues and enjoy the matches 😃 48h notice is required for any orders. Merci 🙂🏆⚽️

For today we have made a lot of homemade sweet and savoury food, treats, bakes and desserts for you all to suit the weather and to please your tastebuds 😃
Always made from scratch in our Café by the 2 of us. Don't ask us if we've made all this, we're both French and it's the name of the business, we love food and respect it 🙂
Just a note if you didn't know but the word "gourmand" has nothing to do with the first literal translation "greedy", au contraire !! 😃 A "Gourmand" enjoys simple well cooked and made food, it's a "bon vivant", a hearty eater or an Epicurean, enjoying good drinks and food. Or the other meaning of "Gourmand" for our Café is mouthwatering, appetising, delightful. Everything we do here for you 😃

👨‍🍼 Father's Day is coming and we have planned a Special Brunch for you to celebrate the dad in your life 😀 Please read dedicated post out tomorrow. Please book by 17/06. Please note we reserve the right to close the reservations if we've reached maximum capacity. Merci 🙂 👨‍🍼

Drinkwise, we have a large choice of delightful loose leaf teas, hot chocolates and coffees made with locally roasted coffee beans.
We also have classic soft drinks in stock and we brought back from France more Teisseire syrups (Grenadine, passion fruit and peach) to mix with water and some seasonal classics, Gini and Orangina rouge, perfect for spring and summer.
The new drink of the month is Cherry juice 🍒

If you call in this week, as usual, you'll find in our little piece of France, homemade and handmade cakes and classic treats all made by us on site that you'll find nowhere else except in France 😉
We're definitely cheaper than a flight to France and even if you go to France you're not even sure to get this level of quality and freshness if you don't know where to go 😄

If you don't mind processed food and cakes charged at crazy prices when not handmade and/or homemade, we are probably not for you 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♂️
As in our Café, everything is made by us on site and fairly priced. We like good food and we like to share it by baking and cooking everything from scratch. "Épicuriens" (Epicurean) we said in French 😊

For breakfast (on weekends here) French people have sweet food so you can enjoy Croissants, Pains au chocolat, Pain perdu (traditional French toasts), Tartines (1/2 Baguette tradition with jam and butter), Chouquettes (except on Fridays) and many other homemade treats from 10am on Saturdays as stock lasts.
Don't hesitate to spread the word as this fact doesn't seem well known 🙂
We are an unique place, when we say you're in France with us, you ARE in France 🙂
Also new breakfast offers starting a couple of weekends ago so you can feel even more in France 🇫🇷 🥐🥖🧈☕️🧃

Regarding the menu, we will be serving a French Onion soup, Sandwiches with our Baguettes Campaillette, Quiches (Lorraine or Vegetables), Croque Monsieur OR Steak Haché Frites (homemade beef burger served with Northern France fries cooked in beef fat).
We are here until 4pm so come in and say "Bonjour" as we welcome you in our home in a way and it's the best and a really simple way to start a conversation 😀
And same when you leave, no matter how busy we are, you can still thank us and say goodbye. You would never leave your hosts' house without thanking and greeting them, right ? 😁

Everything is prepared on order for freshness and deliciousness. We are not a fast food. We love and respect food.
Lunch is available from 12pm between Wednesday and Saturday in our Café and is sacred. In France, we take our time to enjoy our meal 🙂

🍽 Or visit us between 6pm and 8pm for our Evening Bistro Menu for a tasty meal. This is our new offer for 4 months while the works will be in place in the street and neighbourhood.

If you're after scrumptious and homemade goodies, we have Fruits tarts with many with berries as it's finally their season 🙌, Crème caramel, Coulants au chocolat (melt in the middle chocolate cake), Chocolat Liégeois (chocolate cream dessert topped with our homemade vanilla chantilly), Crème brûlée, Cheesecake à la vanille et caramel au beurre salé (vanilla and salted butter caramel cheesecake), Tarte Tatin (caramelised apple tart baked upside down), "Tartes framboises citron vert mascarpone" (lime, mascarpone and raspberries tarts) and the Cake on the stand is a "Cake citron pavot" (lemon and poppy seed cake).
Tartes au citron meringuées, Mousse au chocolat and some classic pâtisseries will be available for the weekend.

🥐 Please note that our traditional French pastries (Croissants pur beurre (full butter) and Pains au chocolat) are only available on Saturdays and Sundays for now. They are homemade on site by us from scratch using specific French flours and butters as you would find in any bakeries in France and they are always really popular so to guarantee availability and avoid any disappointment please pre-order them with at least 48h notice or by Thursdays 4pm.

The pre-order rules have been in place for 3 years now to guarantee the happiness of as many people as possible and make it fair for all our customers so don't hesitate to contact us to pre-order. Merci 🙂
(We know you'd like to keep this super secret to yourself but come on let's share those delicious pastries with others 😁)
Reminder: It takes approximately 30 hours for us to process a batch from scratch hence the pre-ordering rules in place. We are French artisan bakers not retailers opening a cardboard of frozen croissants or ready to sell croissants who won't be able to tell you how it's made and give you jam and butter with it when the French just enjoy their croissants as they are. Thank you.

You can buy our Baguettes Campaillette enjoy at home and you can buy French cheeses and/or charcuteries to go with them. All our goodies are imported from France and some are quality labelled, certified and protected products. We're happy to talk you through any of them.
We also have French artisans jams from Brittany made with quality and seasonal ingredients that will be perfect for your tartines (slice of half a baguette).
You can also pre-order Baguettes tradition if you need many for a party. 24h notice is required. Merci 🙂

For traditional French pastries, breads and food, come see us, the only piece of France in the North West 😎

You can treat yourself with some Financiers (almond cakes), Chocolate chips and pecan Cookies, Chouquettes, Noisettins (hazelnut biscuits) and White Chocolate chips and raspberries Muffins.

Madeleines will be available from Friday as usual. It's the only day where you won't be able to get Chouquettes from us.

We keep repeating that everything we do is homemade onsite just by the 2 of us from scratch but it's just because people seem so unaware of that and surprised when they visit us. After more than 4 years you should know now what to expect when you come in our little piece of France 😁
We don't sell an identity, we are French so everything is like what you would find in France in a classic and traditional Bakery in "Province" (provinces) (we're not Paris and we don't do trendy Instagrammable pastries and cakes).
For an authentic French food experience come see the French 😃 At Gourmand ! we mean what we say we don't play with our communication to sell something 🙂
🗣 Little tip: To check if the business you're in which has a French name or seems to offer French food are really French or do sell real French food, ask the staff how it's been done or check if the boss is French and ask them how they produce those French dishes or cakes and their stories. It's how you differentiate those which sell an identity because it's "sexy" and the authentic French businesses with passionate owners and workers 🙂

For the coming Sundays, we will be mainly serving our new Brunch offers. Please see posts about our new Menus for up to end of August.
However we still keep the 1st of each Summer month to cook and serve some
classics of French cuisine. The next Special Sunday Lunches will be as follows:
- Sunday 7/06: Moules Frites, mussels cooked with garlic and white wine served with Northern France fries. - DONE -
- Sunday 5/07: "Parillada de la mer" (mix of fresh seafood cooked on plancha) served with tomates Provençales (roasted tomatoes with garlic, herbs, olive oil and breadcrumbs) and wild rice.
- Sunday 2/08: "Grillades de l'été avec Saucisses de Toulouse et Merguez" (traditional grilled Toulouse sausages and Mutton and beef spicy sausages) served with Northern France fries and salad.

Next Brunch will be on Sunday 14/06.

And you can walk in on Sundays for breakfast, lunch or a treat but service might be slower if you haven't booked as priority will always be given to our customers who booked the Brunch Set Menu or the Special Sunday Lunch.
And since the beginning there's NO sandwich on Sundays.

***🎾 Roland Garros 🎾 ***

It's this time of the year where Olivia gets really excited. If you were already here in the previous years, you know... 🤦‍♂️😅

She loves tennis, especially the big French tournament taking place Porte d'Auteuil in Paris, which officially started on 24/05. Every day since then, it's tennis almost non stop and our neighbours certainly wonder what or who Olivia cheers for with all the "ooooh", "ohhhh" and "alllllleeeeeez!!" 😆

She grew up watching the tournament with her family so every year it's special for her and once again, she loves sharing that with you all by baking tasty treats such as the Roland Ball, a sablé biscuit in the shape of a tennis ball filled with homemade salted butter caramel this year 😋

Sablé is a crumbly buttery biscuit.

Olivia also made "La Suzanne" again.
Over the last 4 years, to celebrate "la quinzaine" (the 2 weeks' tournament), she makes this cake, her own creation, in honour of Suzanne Lenglen, a French tennis player who has a court named after her at the tournament, the second biggest court on site.
She won the tournament twice and was the first International star of women's tennis.

A refreshing cake made of a lemony sponge cake soaked in lemon syrup and filled with lemon cream and fresh raspberries then topped with a coloured white chocolate icing to remind the famous clay of the tournament 😊

⚠️ Limited edition so be quick if you want some.

If you can't attend it or go to France, we bring it to you 😉

Do you like tennis yourself? Do you watch the French tournament? Or any other tournaments?
Do you have a favourite tennis player? This year's tournament is very exciting and everything has been shaken up as all the great players either had to withdraw or surprisingly lost their match so who's gonna win the title this year? 😃

You can find the history of the tournament in our post from last year dated 29/05/24 if you're interested.

Unfortunately we won't have any French winner once again as the last two winners of the tournament were (1983) and (2000) and all our French players did not manage to pass the 1st week of the tournament. However we discovered a promising talent in the person of Moise Kouame, a young player, and future of French tennis could be bright again 🤩
