Ventnor Botanic Garden on the Isle of Wight enjoys a microclimate of its own & boasts a collection of over 30k rare and sub tropical plants plus numerous red squirrels and wall lizards.

Look at our lovely Citrus Grove grow!
Planted last spring, our citrus grove is growing beautifully, bringing a touch of the Mediterranean to Ventnor Botanic Garden. It’s wonderful to see these fruiting trees establishing themselves. We look forward to watching the grove flourish and sharing its progress with you!

Learning beyond the classroom at Ventnor Botanic Garden! 🌿
Every child who visits with their school or activity group, receives a Golden Ticket, so they can return for a complimentary visit with their family at their leisure.
We are now taking bookings for 2027.
Our education visits are designed around the National Curriculum and Key Stages, bringing learning to life in a fun, engaging and memorable outdoor setting.
From exploring plants and wildlife to discovering the natural world, our visits are educational, informative, hands-on — and packed with fresh air! 🌱🐝🌳

Continuing the series of members talks ;
The kingdom of Fungi is one of five kingdoms of life. The others, animals, plants, unicellular creatures and bacteria, all rely upon fungi for their existence. Recent studies studies have confirmed how vital fungi are in encouraging around 90% of all plants to grow successfully. Fungi also enable many plants to tap into a much wider network of sprawling underground filaments sometimes referred to as the ‘Wood Wide Web’.

We were delighted to welcome author and broadcaster Roy Lancaster along with retired Curator of the RHS Graden, Wisley, Jim Gardiner. Over six hours they examined the garden with Chris & Wayne seeing rare specimens new even to them in innovative garden settings. Staying in the garden for three days with their wives, the two horticultural legends were stunned by the location of Signal Point set within a Palm Garden for the 21st century, where palms only 20 years old are already Champion Trees. Roy, as former collection head at Hilliers, recognised many specimens from the early days of VBG when he loaded Sir Harold Hillier’s van with tender plants destined for the collection at Ventnor, which now form a part of the most comprehensive collection of half-hardy plants in Britain. Both were enthralled to the rebirth of VBG, its sustainability ethos and the stories of each plant and collection. We welcome them back any time.
