On a rainy day in April we went for a day out in Upton Upon Severn, whilst walking round we saw Cobblers Cottage down a lovely little side street just off the High Street. We instantly thought how beautiful it was and saw a For Sale sign in the window. The estate agents was just down the road so we went and had a look how much it was. We talked about it all the way home and then decided to call th
e Estate Agents as soon as they opened next to arrange a viewing. As soon as we walked in we knew we loved it, but we hadn’t got a clue what we would do with it if we bought it. We had a discussion over a coffee in the Bell House cafe and the next thing we knew we were back to the Agents and had made an offer, 10 minutes later we had a call to say the offer had been accepted, we were over the moon. The next part of our journey wasn’t straight forward, due to its age, it’s size, it’s grade II listing, it being in the flood capital of Worcestershire and various other things it took us another 12 weeks before we collected the keys on a beautiful July afternoon, then our journey of refurbishment, restoration and research started. We found so much out about the cottage from the more mature residents of Upton and from the many documents we read. After much stress, late nights, hard work and loads of fun the cottage came back to life, and we managed to keep its history as a cobblers shop. We decided to let it out for holidays and short breaks, so lots of people could experience everything the cottage had to offer. We’ve had some wonderful comments from our guests and some delightful comments from the residents of Upton who have welcomed us into their community in the most wonderful way, the local business owners all introduced themselves to us and have been most helpful. Cobblers Cottage is a building that we absolutely love, we are so proud to now be the owners and we hope we have done the Page family (who were the Cobblers who owned the shop) proud
