Proper Gander welcomed Sauce Supper Club for a special collaboration with MasterChef: The Professionals 2026 winner Gareth Baty The Wandering Cumbrian — including his famous langoustine & apple tartare with kefir, caviar and dill oil.
Thanks to Sauce Supper Club for organising, Gareth for joining us in the kitchen, and everyone who came along. More supper club dates coming soon!

When people think about a holiday, they often think about the place they’re staying.

But hospitality is so much bigger than that.

It’s the café that serves breakfast before a mountain walk. The pub where tired legs rest after a day exploring. The attraction that creates family memories. The local shop, restaurant, the steam railway, activity provider, cleaner, gardener, laundry, local supplier and countless small family businesses that help make a destination special.

What many visitors don’t realise is that 20% of the cost of so many hospitality services goes directly to VAT.

The campaign is calling for hospitality VAT to be reduced from 20% to 10%, helping businesses across the sector invest more in guest experiences, support local jobs, work with local suppliers and keep rural destinations thriving.

For places like ours, tourism isn’t just about holidays. It’s what helps sustain communities, creates employment and supports the businesses that visitors love discovering when they’re here.

A stronger hospitality sector means better experiences for visiting guests, stronger local economies and more vibrant communities for everyone to enjoy.
