28th May has always been a day of nothing really, nothing special, nothing important, nothing to note.

Well, that is until this year, until Thursday 28th May, 2026. When the love of my life, asked me to marry him, and I said yes ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฅฐ

In true form, I was flapping around in the kitchen covered in flour, dough & starter, prepping sourdough for you all for Friday. The perfect time to ask - of course!

After coming out of such an awful period of my life a few years ago, my move to Cornwall was very intentional, it was to get away, to change my life, to choose a different life for myself. When I moved to St Agnes, I felt peace for the first time in what felt like a lifetime.

And then I met Joe, this wonderful, geeky, energetic ball of surf ๐Ÿ„โ€โ™‚๏ธ full of energy, loves a drama (as long as it doesn't directly relate to him) moved to Cornwall for similar reasons to me, loads in common, and it just worked, from the very beginning, it just worked. He taught me what safe feels like, he taught me that real love wasn't what I had thought, but it can be soft, gentle and encouraging.

He pushed this business to what it is today, and gave up some of his own dreams to be on this crazy bread adventure with me, and I will never have the words to thank him enough for that. He has pushed me to be the best that I can be, and he is the reason that Tywardreath Bakery exists as it does today.

I love you, I can't wait to be your wife ๐Ÿ’โœจ๏ธ

I have realised that I've never actually shared my/our full story with you. Some people have heard it in our conversations, but it really was a crazy, unbelievable, magical & fated journey to get here.

It's a long one, but have a read :)

Thank you Cornwall, for bringing me home ๐Ÿ’•

There are so, so many new people here! I can't explain how grateful I am! Thank you for finding us, for following, for messaging, for knocking on our door to see if we 'know where the bakery is?' Thank you all.

Our daughter is really unwell at the moment, so I need to give the bakery a week off whilst Joe & I help her recover, and recover some sleep ourselves.

The bakery isn't the hard part, when things are good at home, I have a great schedule, time off, a really nice workflow. I mean yes - I work a lot, but it is all manageable, we work around nursery hours etc.

But it becomes impossible to juggle both when our little girl is so poorly and no one in the house is sleeping. The sleep deprivation this weekend has been truly unbearable for all of us, around hospital trips and sleep torture of her waking every 20 minutes in agony at night, has been super hard for us.

We're trying our best, but I think a week off is definitely the best way to go right now. We will be back, I promise! And I hope you'll all still be here ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

See you next week ๐Ÿž โค๏ธโœจ๏ธ

All our love,

Emily & Joe - Tywardreath Bakery ๐Ÿžโค๏ธ

Itโ€™s been gently brought to my attention recently that some of my posts and stories have perhaps been coming across a little differently than I intended โค๏ธ

I share the early starts, the long days, the chaos and the exhaustion mostly because I have always wanted this page to feel honest. Social media can so often make life and small businesses look endlessly polished and perfect, and I never wanted to contribute to that illusion, because it simply isn't true.

The reality is that running a bakery, especially one centred around bread, is physically huge at times. Bread takes space, time, lifting, shaping, proofing, baking, cleaning, organising and a lot of hours. Add motherhood and family life into the mix and yes, sometimes I definitely do sound a little tired ๐Ÿ˜‚ because I am haha!

But please know that we are okay โค๏ธ and I am incredibly moved by your concerns.

Are we busy? Very!
Exhausted sometimes? Absolutely.
But also incredibly grateful and proud.

Every single order, every sell out, every queue at our little market stall still genuinely blows me away. I donโ€™t feel burdened by your support, I feel incredibly lucky because of it.

I think perhaps I need to share more of the beauty alongside the hard work sometimes too. Because whilst this business is demanding, it has also brought us community, purpose, opportunity, friendships and way more support than I could ever put into words.

So thank you, always, for supporting our little bakery. It means far more than you probably realise ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Wonderful news today. A few of you will know that we had ITV round to film a little while ago - and here's the final piece ๐Ÿ˜Š

Small bakeries and especially home bakeries like ours, sadly get little to no recognition in comparison to larger commercial bakeries. So this is a huge, huge win for us & all independent bakeries feeding their villages!

A massive thank you to Charlotte for the idea & for filming so respectfully.

Watch the latest from ITV News - The Federation of Small businesses says while 85% of Cornish businesses are microbusinesses the cost of scaling up is a huge undertaking

Friday, Saturday & Sunday consisted of 10pm + bedtimes and 2am wakeups. Safe to say I'm exhausted!

Here's a small glimpse at why. Honestly I see other creators or businesses do DITL videos and I just don't understand how there's the time! There's a whole bunch I forgot to record; making custard, rhubarb jam, the crumble, roasting red onions off and a tonne more. But when you're in the zone, doing every single thing yourself, i just cant see how theres any time to produce these daily or even remember to film at all! I take my hat off to you ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿซถ

Anyway, enjoy! ๐Ÿ’•

More scenes from the bakery as requested! โ˜บ๏ธโœจ๏ธ swipe to the end for focaccia filth - sorry!

And I know I said this last time but i still cant believe this isn't even half the bread.

There were still another 24 loaves to bake off, and another 40 to prep before we could even think about being finished for the day.

I think people often imagine โ€œsmall home bakeryโ€ as a few loaves here and there, but bread takes up serious physical space. Every loaf needs hours of fermentation, shaping by hand, bannetons, fridge space, cooling space, oven space. It was around 8 hours of baking alone this morning. Luckily my amazing RM Rory can handle it she truly is a workhorse ๐Ÿ™โœจ๏ธ

Some mornings, especially ones like this, I stand back and genuinely can't believe the scale we've grown to from our family kitchen.

Whilst this might still technically be a home bakery, the output now honestly is closer to a small commercial bakery with a team, and day/night shift workers. And yet every loaf is still mixed, shaped, scored and baked by me โ˜บ๏ธ

It's exhausting at times. Really exhausting.

But seeing the racks fill up like this every single week, is such a pleasure and a sight that makes it all worth it.

Thank you โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿซถ
