The sparkling wines are tricky. The words on the label don’t really tell you how sweet the wine is. It’s more about a system someone set up a long time ago and never tidied up. It’s all leftover French wine language that the rest of the world borrowed and kept, which is why a Spanish cava still says “Brut” on the front.

“Brut” means dry. “Extra Dry” is a step sweeter than Brut, which makes no sense. And if you want a wine with no sweetness in it at all, the word you’re after is “Brut Nature.” The full scale is on the 5th slide, sugar levels and all.

Next time you want something properly dry, look past the word “dry,” or just ask us. We’ve got a whole wall of them.

New sardines just arrived – La Narval, hand-filleted and packed by hand off the coast of Cádiz and the Algarve.

This is the meal for when it's too hot to cook: spread avocado on warm bread, add salt and pepper, then tomato and sardines, and red onion on top (I marinated it in lemon, salt and sugar).

Five minutes, no stove, and full of protein and omega-3. We have them in plain olive oil and spicy. Order online (link in the bio) or come in the shop.

Nobody ever fell in love with a food they hadn’t tasted. A label can’t tell you whether something’s going to become the thing you can’t stop thinking about.

So at our counter, you try first. If it’s out – the cheese, the charcuterie, the olive oil, the olives – just ask and we’ll cut you a piece. The sealed things like wine and tins stay as they are, but everything else is yours to taste.

We want you to find the one you love, because we love this food too. That’s the whole reason the shop’s here.

Sobrasada – a cured sausage you spread on bread.

It tastes like chorizo, but softer — paprika and pork. Spread it on bread, add a drizzle of honey.

This one’s organic. In our shop, you can always try before you buy.

I didn’t want to eat it. I really didn’t.

Pork blood, rice, onion – all fried in a pan. This is Morcilla de Burgos – Spanish black pudding.

The difference: Spanish morcilla uses rice, not oatmeal. Which means it’s lighter, softer, and holds together when you fry it. Bogdan says it’s creamier than the British version. I say it tastes more like spiced rice than anything I’d been afraid of.
