Two city centre car parks will once again be free after 4pm following a U-turn from Cornwall Council.

The local authority has reintroduced free evening parking at the Edward Street car park, near Truro Crown Court and the Moresk car park next to the Pydar development area.

Free evening car parking was scrapped by Cornwall Council in 2023 under the previous leadership as a way to bring in more money.

The controversial move led to much criticism among traders in the city that the introduction of tariffs after 4pm would negatively impact the night-time economy in the city.

Truro City and Cornwall Councillors Rob Nolan and Steven Webb have been instrumental in reinstating free parking in Truro, and were onsite at the two car parks from 4pm on Friday April 10 to speak with residents and raise awareness of the changes.

Alun Jones, Truro BID manager, said: "Truro BID, on behalf of the city centre businesses, would like to thank Cornwall Council for acknowledging our ongoing concerns regarding parking capacity and cost.

"We're optimistic that partial free parking after 4pm will boost the later afternoon retail and professional services customer visits and support the hospitality sector during the evenings.

Our chefs are taking their annual holiday this month.
Sashimi and sushi service will be paused till 29 March (Sun).

Opening time will be 4 pm -9 pm during this period of time.

We will also closed 16 - 18 (Mon - Wed) &
22 - 26 (Sun - Thu) March.

All back to normal 31 March (Tue).
