Wild Edge

Wild Edge Wild Edge 🌱 Your guide to nature connection! Offering wild food courses, transforming verges & gardens, & fighting food poverty. Fall in love with the hedgerow.

We're on a mission to build communities & rebuild lost biodiversity. Discover wild food & unleash your inner forager! We are a social enterprise that provides communities with wild food education, through foraging walks, cookery classes, and free food initiatives. Alongside this work, we also seek to preserve and share the knowledge of heritage crafts. A percentage of profit made from our ticketed

walks and courses allows us to provide the same service, for free, to those experiencing local food poverty in our community. We believe that all people should have access to wild food education and the confidence to access nutritious, sustainable, local, fresh food. For every walk or course you purchase from The Family Foraging Kitchen – you help to provide a local Cornish family the skills to find free food forever. There is a good deal of fear and misinformation surrounding the use and consumption of wild plants, and we believe the best way to combat this is to share knowledge about how these plants can be used. Modern agricultural methods have meant that foraging, once a part of our ancestral daily life, has faded away, replaced by regular family trips to the supermarket. We are now disconnected from the food that we eat. Given the ecological, social and environmental crisis that we now face globally, humanity needs to - rather urgently and radically - examine its relationship with food and how we acquire it. Foraging is about more than just food and nourishment; it gets us out into the countryside, helps to cultivate an intimate appreciation of nature, lets us explore history, science and folklore; can bond families, strengthen communities and reestablish connections severed by modern life. Inspire younger generations to learn traditional skills and knowledge. Get truly wild in your kitchen. Take an edible journey and explore the beautiful Rame Peninsula.

Hey guys. This is getting closer but so far we’ve only a couple of people interested. I’d hate for it not to go ahead so if you know anyone who may enjoy a different day out and something free to do within the funders specified age bracket; do share and let them know ☺️ you have to register your place on the website only so we know we have numbers attending and can make sure we’ve lunch for all!

With the recent warmer weather we have been having, it may be bringing more adders out to bask in the Dartmoor summer sunshine ☀️

Adders are a native snake species that tend to be found in coastal, heathland or moorland areas, their secretive nature and camouflaged markings mean they are often hard to spot. So, snapping that photo can be a rare treat 📷

Adders emerge from hibernation around March ready for the spring mating season. To try and attract a mate male adders will perform a ‘dance’ which also helps to fend of competition 🐍

Dogs love the variety of smells and exciting places to explore on Dartmoor, but snuffling around in the undergrowth could disturb an adder. Adders are sensitive to vibrations and often move on before a human can get close, but a dog could take them by surprise causing the snake to bite in self-defence.

Although Adder bites are rare, they can be rather nasty and serious for humans and dogs. Take extra care when out and about on the moors and keep your dog on a lead for extra safety. 🦮

from March 1 – July 31 to ensure everyone can appreciate the wonders of Dartmoor, while respecting its wildlife and habitat 💚

A huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated to and believed in Millbrook Watch so far. Your support, encouragement and enthusiasm for this little community dream genuinely means the world to us.

We’re incredibly excited to share that The Peninsula Trust have officially agreed to partner with us as our governing body, helping support Wild Edge in applying for grant funding to try and make Millbrook Watch a reality. We’re so grateful for their belief in the project, its aims and its potential for our community and local wildlife.

Today we submitted our very first funding application to an amazing local funder and we’ve got absolutely everything crossed for a positive response.

The more funding and support we can raise, the more we can do — from better filming equipment and educational opportunities for local children, to creating a lasting seasonal wildlife record of Millbrook Lake and its wild edges for future generations.

Thank you all so much for continuing to share, donate, encourage and believe in this project. It honestly feels like something very special is beginning to grow.

No raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or returns on investment are offered… Victoria Ryder needs your support for Millbrook Watch: Four Seasons on the Wild Edge
