⨠BEST PUB GARDEN āØ
The Great British Pub Awards is a pretty special night in the pub calendar - a celebration of brilliant pubs and the people behind them from right across the country.
So to head up to Leeds this week and come home with Best Pub Garden was a bit of a moment for us. We were completely bowled over!
And it was all the lovelier to have Amelia, Ruth and Ines, three of our brilliant Duty Managers, there with us to celebrate. This place is nothing without the team behind it, so getting to share the night - and the win - with some of them made it even more special.
Of all the things weāve created here, the garden is one of those weāre proudest of. From the beginning, we wanted it to be more than a patch of lawn littered with picnic benches. We wanted to create something magical.
So itās really very special to receive a national award as a nod to that.
And, of course, this garden has many hands behind it:
Our longtime friend and collaborator Naomi Doran, with whom we dreamed up and designed the garden in the first place. Matt and his team at Court Property Services Ltd , who took on the enormous job of turning those plans into reality, with incredible care, craftsmanship and attention to detail. Our dear friend Rob, who rolled up his sleeves alongside us and put in countless hours helping us build and shape the garden in those early days. And the gorgeous bunch of local volunteers, friends and family who turned up for our community planting day and helped us get the whole thing into the ground. Richard at Long Barn , who so generously supported that very first crop of lavender around the kadai bowl fountain. Our wonderful neighbour and friend Michele, whose expert gardening hands keep everything growing, blooming and looking beautiful. And local legends Shrekfeet, who take such brilliant care of our lawns and somehow keep them looking glorious despite everything we throw at them.
But what makes the garden really special isnāt just how it looks. Itās everything that happens within it. The food cooked over fire, the long lunches under the stretch tent, pizzas in the meadow, parties, music, children exploring, glasses of w**e in the sunshine and countless evenings of fun.
There are so many people - our team, friends, collaborators, suppliers and guests - who have helped bring this place to life in ways big and small. This award belongs to all of them too.
And to everyone who comes and spends time here, thank you for loving our garden as much as we do.
Finally, a huge thank you to The Morning Advertiser and everyone behind the Great British Pub Awards. It was a brilliant night and the enormous amount of work that goes into it was evident at every turn. Weāre hugely grateful for everything you do to champion pubs and the people behind them, and to keep this brilliant industry thriving.
