Thank you so much to everyone for the supportive comments, reading through them has quite literally turned the objection letters and the article completely on its head. It has put the hope back in my heart!
Ironically, most of the objection letters had no relevance to our planning application, however they have highlighted another example of a much larger problem we face in Pembrokeshire. Manorbier, like many other places, has become the "peaceful and idyllic", picture-perfect destination and heritage site, tailor-made for tourists and retirees, meanwhile our communities of people who have grown up here, especially the younger generation, are swept under the rug.
If you want to experience life or culture, it's ok as long as it happens elsewhere. Young people shouldn't have to leave to find a life for themselves. Places like Manorbier should remain living, evolving communities in their own right. At a time when so much seems to pull people apart, opportunities to come together matter more than ever.
Some of the feedback we've received just shows there is another side to this story that wasn't reflected in the article. While the people objecting clearly don't want these events here, many others value them and what they bring to the village.
It's really sad to feel that level of resistance from some people around us when we've worked hard to run our events responsibly and with consideration for our neighbours, especially when our intention has always been to give back to the village, add something positive, and feel proud of where we live. However, it's clearer than ever that the love and support we have, far outweighs the resistance.
