"Being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock" – the words of Asda customer Darren, who's a big advocate for our Tickled Pink campaign.

Darren is a regular at our Cannock store's Tickled Pink events raising money and awareness for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. He's always happy to chat to customers and colleagues about his experience and offer advice to anyone who needs it. He was diagnosed with grade two invasive ductal cancer in June 2023 after his wife Fiona felt a lump in his chest when he was lying down. She is registered blind and has a heightened sense of touch.

Darren said: "It was just a massive shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen. I think in a way I've been really lucky as from finding my lump to my op it was only six weeks. I am one of the very lucky few who haven't had to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm just on Tamoxifen for five years."

Asda Cannock community champion Sue said: "It's great having Darren at our events, where he's able to give a male perspective on breast cancer. It really brings it home that breast cancer doesn't discriminate, both men and women can get it."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from Asda Thornaby are at the heart of the store’s Tickled Pink activity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. 🎀

They've all had breast cancer and, after recovering well, are using their own experiences to help customers and colleagues recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! in the process. 💗

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about.

💗 This year, Sam took on running, cycling and swimming challenges to help raise awareness for CoppaFeel!

After being diagnosed with cancer at 19 and later undergoing a double mastectomy, Sam chose to celebrate her body and encourage others to know their normal.

We're honoured that Sam shared her story as part of Tickled Pink.💕

The Tickled Pink awareness posters displayed in our St Leonards-on-Sea store played a huge part in our colleague Donna's decision to check herself – and when she did she found a small lump in her breast which turned out to be cancerous.

Seeing those reminders every day helped her to recognise what to look out for and encouraged her to take action. In August last year Donna, who's 46, found a tiny lump, less than a centimetre, just under her ni**le. At first, she thought it might be a harmless cyst, something that would disappear on its own, but after a few days it remained so, with a gentle nudge from her partner, John, she made the decision to visit her GP. A mammogram and biopsies were carried out, and within three weeks she found out she had Stage 1 breast cancer. In October, she underwent a full mastectomy, along with the removal of four lymph nodes under her arm, and then started chemotherapy. She's since made a great recovery and has returned to work.

Donna said: "My mum had breast cancer at about the same age as me so I was kind of aware, but I'm one those people who think everything's okay and never go to a doctor. I see all the Tickled Pink stuff at work every day. The posters are everywhere, even the toilets. You can't miss them. Their message worked as it made me very aware, and so I thought I'd better check myself. I'd like to think that a lot of our customers are seeing the messages too and checking themselves. The earlier you catch things, the easier it is to deal with it. Thankfully I caught mine early, so it was relatively easy to get rid of.

"Tickled Pink is a great charity and it's brilliant in raising awareness. I've always supported Tickled Pink in the store and worn the T shirts, we all do here. Our community champion Wendy always makes sure we are up for it."

The group of ladies at Cohort 4 in Atherstone invited me along to share their afternoon of celebration.

The group really appreciate the valuable support they get from each other and their peer mentors. Cohort 4 is a lifeline for ladies who have suffered domestic abuse of all kinds and many have complex needs. The safe space provided helps them to heal and reset, a real sisterhood. We were shown around, took part in a craft activity and had some refreshments. 💜🤍💚

We've started the month strong at Asda Tamworth by raising an amazing £299.02 for Breast Cancer Now. We had an offer of Cream Tea hampers and a Spin to Win in the foyer. The huge CoppaFeel! b**b suit made its first outing and was a huge success 🙌 💝💞

Students at The Howard Primary School in Elford, enjoyed taking part in a colour run! As you can see from the pictures they thoroughly enjoyed it.

The event takes place every year, becoming a tradition for the school. At Asda Tamworth we were happy to support the event with some Watermelons, to help the students cool down! We think they all look wonderfully colourful!

I was delighted to be invited to the opening of the new preloved store of the childhood cancer charity, Jessie's Journey.

The team have achieved so much since they started in April 2026. I had a look around the store, which will become a hub for families, navigating childhood cancer, they have counselling suites for children and adults with trained counsellors offering support when needed. At Asda Tamworth we have supported the team with donations and outreach support. The team are truly making a difference to so many families, it's a privilege to help them. Well done to all at Jessie's Journey.

Well done Robyn and James!

Well done Robyn and James!

When an elderly customer who lives on the top floor of a 10-storey block of flats couldn't get to the shops because the lift wasn't working Robyn and James from our Tamworth store came to the rescue.

The lady phoned the store asking for help placing an online order for the first time. Online team leader Robyn said: "She was getting quite distressed and upset, as there was no way she could get to the shops as she couldn't walk down the stairs. I felt terrible for her and told her not to worry. She gave me a list of the things she wanted – mainly big bottles of water and long-life milk – and I got a trolley and bought them for her. I just thought it was a nice thing to do."

Robyn asked her colleague James to deliver them to her – and he battled up the stairs to get to the customer's flat. He said: "It was a good workout! The lady was lovely and very appreciative. I stayed and had a chat with her and I think she appreciated a bit of social interaction. It was nice to think I made her day."

When the lift was back working the lady called into the store with a thank you card for the colleagues. Online manager Nicki said: "Until the lady came in I didn't know the full extent of what Robyn and James did, as they played it down as if it was just part of their job to help someone. I’m so proud of them both." Robyn was reimbursed by the store for her kindness.

I was truly honoured to present an Asda Foundation grant for £500 to 1122 Marmion Squadron Air Cadets.

The SQN is well attended and I saw some real enthusiasm and commitment from the young people there. I was also given the opportunity to go on a Sortie, in the flight simulator...absolutely brilliant.

The Belgrave community allotments received a grant in 2025.

I've visited and have been impressed with how the funding has been spent so far. They have a new polytunnel, in which they are growing bananas, chard and other exotic plants 🪴. They have built raised beds, so people with mobility issues can join in. The group are busy preparing for a visit from the RHS, who will judge the gardens and hopefully there hard work will be rewarded.
