🐾☀️ IMPORTANT HEATWAVE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR DOGS, THEIR HUMANS, AND THAT ONE LABRADOR WHO THINKS HE'S INVINCIBLE ☀️🐾

As temperatures soar, we're issuing a gentle reminder that whilst your dog may be covered in fur and powered entirely by enthusiasm, they're not actually designed for a midday trek across sun-baked pavements.

A few hot-weather pointers:
🐕 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening.
🐾 If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for paws.
💧 Take water everywhere.
🌳 Stick to shade where possible.
🚫 Avoid energetic games of fetch between "pleasantly warm" and "surface of the sun" o'clock.
🏡 Keep them cool with fresh water, cooling mats, frozen treats and plenty of rest.

And before anyone thinks, "We'll cool off in the pub..."

We've been checking temperatures throughout the heatwave and, somewhat remarkably, the pub has been sitting 2–4°C hotter inside than outside. Whether that's the kitchen, the customers, or the collective body heat of hundreds of happy dogs is anyone's guess.

That said, if you do decide to pop by:
💧 We have ice water available.
🥕 Frozen carrots for our canine customers (£1 donation to Prostate Cancer)
🌳 Plenty of shade in the garden.
🐶 And all the fuss, ear scratches and admiration a dog could reasonably expect.

As the proud holders of the title of The Nation's Best Pub for Dogs 2025, we firmly believe in putting pooches and people before pennies in the till. We'd much rather you and your four-legged best friend stay safe, stay cool, and skip today's visit if it's simply too hot.

After all, we'd rather miss you today and see you both tomorrow than have anyone risking heatstroke just for a pint and a packet of crisps.

Stay cool, look after each other, and please remember: your dog has never once complained about missing a pub trip. (Although they may have strong opinions about the frozen carrots.)

While you're out enjoying the sunshine ☀️, spare a thought for our kitchen crew who are currently working in temperatures that make the surface of the sun seem quite reasonable! 🥵👨‍🍳👩‍🍳

If we're a little slower than usual, or if you spot one of us staring lovingly at the walk-in fridge door ❄️❤️, please bear with us. It's significantly hotter in the kitchen than it is outside, and we're all doing our best to keep cool while serving up your favourites! 🍔🍕🍟

We'd really appreciate a little extra patience, kindness and understanding during this heatwave 💛🙏

And, purely in the interests of staff wellbeing (and definitely not because we're dreaming of cold drinks all day 😏🍻🥤), the kitchen team would gladly accept donations of refreshing beverages for after work! 😂🍺🥤
